Marvelous Monday Update 3/9/09

Stitchy Stuff
As I was digging through my stitchy bag, I found a WIP (UFO?) I started a few years ago. When I started it, I had NO CLUE as to how to do specialty stitches, stitch on linen, and had never used beads before. My how things evolve and change! I dove right in and started working on this project again: Simply Elegant Scissor Case and Fob. I managed to finish stitching and beading the fob.

The photo doesn't really do it justice.
It's much prettier in person!

School
Just call me "Group Leader" from now on, OK? How about GL for short?! Aye, last Thursday night my group was supposed to have our final meeting in order to finalize the group project.

Oooohh... Let me BACK up! I got the final part of the report around 9:30pm last Sunday night. The rough draft of the report had to be uploaded on Monday! I was pretty irritated at the group member who emailed me her part so late. Grrr! So I stayed up way past my bedtime in order to get the report finished and uploaded. After all, I had to work on Monday. When would I have time to work on it before class Monday night? "She" didn't say two words to me Monday night in class... No excuses, no apology, no nothing. Hmpf!

Wednesday night, I received a text from her: "Wow! I just finished reading what u put together n its great!!" Heck, I didn't even get a chance to proofread the rough draft. All I did was throw her bit in, made sure it looked halfway decent, and sent it off.

I finished proofreading and editing the rough draft on Thursday, which brings me back to the beginning of this post. Our meeting was scheduled for 6pm. At 5pm, I received a text from "her" telling me that she left her stuff at home (She lives in town.) and that she had famiy issues she had to take care of. No mention of rescheduling or anything! Ack. Here's where GL me comes in. Last week, the same thing happened only it was with the OTHER group member. So a zillion texts flying around (Don't people call each other these days??!!) with me trying to work out when meetings can be rescheduled. Well, this time around I was a bit smarter... I wasn't going to wait until Saturday for the rescheduled meeting JUST IN CASE I needed information from them. I also made it clear I did NOT want information sent to me at the last minute! IMO, our actual group leader should be ensuring that things get done on time... not me. *sigh*

Thank goodness, tonight is my last night for class. Otherwise, it'd be MY turn to make up an excuse to reschedule the meeting. LOL! Guess what? No final, Woo Hoo! Hard to believe the semester is over already. Even though it was a lot of work, those 8 weeks flew by. I'll have a 2 week reprieve before the next semester starts. I'm trying an online class... Intermediate Accounting. Again, I almost fell over when I purchased the textbook for $144... and that was USED.

Looks wonderful, I love it when I find an old piece that I've forgotten about.

The scissor fob is wonderful!
Sorry you had such problems with your group members. Sometimes I just don't like group work for that exact reason.

E-gads! You're very brave to be working full-time and going to school! I hated group work in college...everyone was so flaky! I hope it all turns out well.

Your finish is very pretty. Good thing you found it and finished it. I would have fallen over too-on the cost of your book.

That looks so pretty. What a treasure to find!

I never liked group projects in school. I hate having to rely on other people.

What a pretty fob that will make. Such pretty, spring like colours.
At least you can chill with 2 weeks off school, I know you still have work but it's one less thing :-)
OMG $144 USED!!!!!!!

Love your ?UFO/WIP very pretty. I know what your going through with the GL and excuses but it is over now and you did wonderful! Text books are nuts. I did a few online classes and really enjoyed them!

I'm glad you don't have a final in the class. You need the two weeks off so you can relax. I took an on line English Class (which was stupid)and my textbook cost $135.00 used. Like your FOB.

If you ever write a book about experiences with people, add this bit. I never liked doing group projects, because there is always one who doesn't pitch in.
Great piece...so pretty.

Beautiful fob. And I can understand your irritation. I hate these kind of things as well. It's very upsetting.
And book prices are horrible. I have 2 kids at university, one doing law and economics, the other economics, marketing and accounting. And the book prices are absolutely horrendous.

I am so sorry about your experience being the GL. At least it is over for now.

Love the fob! Glad your semester is ending and you get a break now. Enjoy!

that is EXACTLY why I hated when group work was assigned in school.. there was always one or two doing the work and the rest just sitting around getting credit!! congrats on the ufo finish.. gotta love that!!

Hey GL!
Glad to hear you made it through another term. Group work can be SO difficult. Kudos to you for taking Intermediate online. That had to be my LEAST favorite. I KNOW I'd never have made it through online. My newest class starts in 90 minutes and runs through May 2nd. FOUR hours! UGH!

Doesn't it feel great to finish up an old project! Very pretty Meari!
I'm doing pt college studies via an online course and my text cost $125 used...not as much as yours but still painful! Then I get an email from the place I bought it from saying they'll buy it back from me when I'm done with it....um, I wrote all over the darn thing, lol. I do that when I study...can't help it.

Great small project! I know I had no idea what linen, over 2, etc was all about. I just did what the instructions called for. I look back at some of the stuff I did and I tackled it without knowing what I was getting into! Glad your classes are over and you get some little break. When's the next remodel, refinish project? You haven't done one in awhile!!!!

What a pretty piece, I love the coloring. How frustrating the group project seems to have turned out to be, glad it is almost over for you.

Fun pictures earlier, looks like the Paleofest you found to take your niece to was a huge hit. Your Flip Flop finish was very cute too. As to the Shrek, Brad Pitt, J Lo, and the mirror entry, loved the ending. :)

Hi Meari...

First of all I want to thank you for all of the comments that you have been leaving on my Blog. They mean so much to me.

Meari...I would not take Intermediate Accounting online...I took Accounting in Class and believe me I wouldn't want to be taking Intermediate Accounting online. That is for sure.

I just dearly love to read your Blog...it is so interesting, and I love your pictures and your Niece is so cute. She is a pretty young girl and I'm sure that her Auntie spoils her very much...LOL...

Your Stitching is beautiful as always...

Take care & Happy Stitching

That fob is so very pretty...so springlike and dainty! I am happy you finally have a couple of weeks off..you deserve it!! You did an outstanding job as a GL! Hopefully you won't have to go through that again! Great stitching as usual!!

Your fob is pretty. Your group mates is one of many reasons why I won't go back to school. That would drive me insane! Those online courses sometimes seem more expensive than a regular class-but 144 dollars for a used book-ouch!

That's so pretty Meari! I hate the group work at college too - people have nothing to contribute until the tutor starts watching the group, then they start to shout everyone else down. bleh!
