Scratch Proofing...

... doesn't work! JT and I went on a bicycle ride through town, out to the bike path that leads to the college. We took a lap around the college and headed back to my house.

As we were coasting down a side street at a pretty good pace, I hit a small pothole. JT said he turned around to see me lose control of my bike, hit the curb, bounce off and crash. Scared the the crap out of him, he said.

My account: pothole, lost control, pavement reaching up to grab my face, thoughts of teeth getting knocked out while kissing the pavement, hands slamming into pavement in effort to protect my face, glasses slamming in my eye, thoughts of glasses shattering into my eye.

As bad as it could've been, I walked away with abrasions on my right cheek and above my lip. I also ended up with a cut on the inside of my mouth where my teeth hit, and a badly scraped knee. The second knee was scraped, but not nearly as bad.

I didn't even notice my knee was scraped and bleeding until I was able to stand up. Surprisingly, I didn't injure my hands since I used them to break my fall. Well, them and my face. LOL

Since we were about 3 blocks from home, JT offered to go get his car so I wouldn't have to walk home injured. I managed to hoof it home with my face feeling like it was on fire, and my lip starting to swell. Hey... Women pay good money for the Angelina Jolie look! JT pushed my bike home, and let me push his since my tire was flat and harder to push. He told me there is no way that I am getting a scooter or a motorcycle (In the past, I mentioned I wanted to get a scooter).

If that weren't enough, my "new" bicycle was also injured. Bent front rim, flat tire tube, messed up seat (don't know how that happened!), and unaligned brakes. It's going to have to go to the bike shop to get repaired. :(

I'll have to make a trip to the eye doctor to get my glasses repaired. Not only are they bent...

... and as I said at the beginning, the scratch proofing I paid good money for, did NOT work!

I'm glad my glasses received the road rash instead of my eye. That could've been bad. It was bad enough that the lens was pressed into my eye.

Ouchie! Poor dear! ***hugs***

LOL I think the scratchproofing is meant more for bumping your glasses with a fork...not sliding your face across the ground!

Oh no!! I am so glad that it was not worse, like broken bones or something. Your poor leg and glasses look horrible though. I hope you heal quickly and are not to sore tomorrow from this!!

Oh Meari, I'm so glad you weren't badly hurt. Definately don't get the scooter! I tried my sister's and ended up with it on top of me in a ditch. And, of course, no one was around to help me. Take care and heal quickly. Dang, those look like expensive glasses!

Ouch...so glad you aren't hurt worse. Check out Zenni Optical online for replacing your glasses. They are mega cheap and have great service.

Oh no! Sorry to hear you took such a bad tumble! Thank goodness you came out with just the scratches. Hope your bike and eyeglasses come out of "surgery" ok. No motorcycles or scooters Meari!! :)

Oh my gosh. That was a hard fall. Thank goodness you didn't get more serious hurt. Hopefully it doesn't hurt too much. And so sorry to hear about the damages on your glasses and bike.

Jeez, you know how to get a guy to take special care for you !!!! lol I hate falling. One day I fell on the ground and it hurt like hell (I didn't remember feeling that bad when I used to fall as a kid - maybe the weight can explain that ! lol )

Hope you feel better soon ;-) Don't you have waranty on your lenses? Chuy has one.

wow what a ride! Glad that you are okay. Hope it doesn't cost to much to get your bike fixed.

WOW you really did a number on yourself.

You know you did not need to show JT that you know how to take a fall and still come out like a trooper. LOL

Just kidding.... sounds like he handled the situation like a keeper would.

Sorry to hear your bike and your glasses need to be repaired.

I don't think they meant road rash proofing on the glasses. I am glad you are ok. Hope your wounds heal soon. Nice you could have someone to help you!

OUCH!!!!! Bike wrecks are no fun at all. So glad you were not hurt worse. Bikes & glasses can be replaced, but body parts don't 'heal' quite as fast!~

Oh no, it must hurt a lot!

I am so glad it was not more serious, Meari. Glasses and bikes can be fixed, but you are way more valuable to us. Take care of yourself. Higs, Wanda

Oh your knee looks horrible! I hope you recover quickly. I buy Anthony's glasses at eyemart express, they have the best prices in town and great customer service. I get the scratch protection, light tint and uv protection on Anthony's glasses as well as pay a additional $20 for frame replacements for a year and but TWO pair at a time---he is so hard on glasses! The scratch protection is for normal every day wear, it's not road hazard like I buy on my tires :)

Awww ouch! I'm sorry you fell. And trying to fall gracefully while bike riding with your mystery man is even harder! LOL
Hope you feel better soon.

Ouch! I am glad that your glasses took the brunt of the impact and not your face!
I hope you feel better soon!

How scary and painful. I'm so glad that you didn't end up injured more. Hopefully the residual bruising and pain don't last to long, and you can get your glasses and bike fixed relatively quickly.

Ouch! Hope your boo boos heal soon. Too bad scratch resistance doesn't work that well, lol, I know I get it on my glasses and Connor still manages to scratch them when he picks them up to move them out of his way. Hope the bike repairs aren't too expensive.

Ouch - that kind of fall hurts like the dickens as a kid, much less an adult! Glad you weren't hurt too much, though I'm sorry about the bike and your glasses and your bruises and cuts. Take care.

OUCH. Oh my Meari I am so sorry to hear about your accident. I do hope you are able to get new glasses quickly so you can get some stitching in while you recoup.

Being in the teeth business...I see LOTS of mouth accidents and you are very lucky. You could have really done some damage and costs you TONS of money and still not have a good result when you were done getting them fixed! Glad a little road rash and scratched glasses was the worst of it!

I hope you will heal quickly. Summer isn't over yet and the damages aren't very serious(thank goodness!). Were you able to fix your bike?

Ranae said...

Oh! I am glad it was not any worse,
I hope you can get back on your bike soon.
