Marvelous Monday Update 7/19/10

STITCHY STUFF
I finished the breast cancer ornament for Donna at SFAC over the weekend. The ornament will go to a Reach For Recovery volunteer. These volunteers are also cancer survivors.

Design: Cancer Awareness Blackwork
Designer: Kristine Herber, Dragonfly Stitches
Fabric: 14ct ecru aida
Fibers: DMC (962 & 963)
Embellishments: Seed Beads, Charm, Braided Trim

Even though I have two Tacky Bob's, I used my Bead Nabber to assist in putting the beads on. It's pretty convenient in that you wear it on your finger.

SCHOOL
It's my last week of the semester. I am SO ready for a break. The online Cost Accounting class has been rough (ruff-ruff, lol). I have a test this week, plus homework and then I'm FREE! For two weeks anyway...

Then the next semester starts up. I'll be taking a full time class load comprised of in-seat and online classes. More accounting and finance classes -- fun. (NOT)

Only 6 more classes!

DO-IT-YOURSELF
While on vacation for a week, a friend of mine got a wild hair up the butt and decided (out of the blue) to remodel the bathroom. I volunteered to do the drywall mudding, sanding, and painting. Included in the ordeal project was a new sink faucet, towel bars, and even new toilet handle -- all in rubbed oil bronze finish. Oh, and new linoleum flooring.

To save $$$, I suggested the furnace grate, old trim, and door be painted in a shade to match the bronze finishes. Guess who's doing that?? Yep, moi! I found this hammered bronze paint that matches. All was going great until... Let me back up: When I do spray painting, I have a nifty gadget that snaps to the top (similar to the one to the right). Well, I forgot mine at home. I primered all the trim and then spray painted it without the paint can adapter. My index finger was a bit sore by the time I ran out of paint... later it felt numb. Here it is a day later and the tip of my finger is still numb!

(P.S. This was for the friend's bathroom, not mine!)

Pretty finsihs. Enjoy the study break. Are you officially on vacation, too? I mean off from work for a while? Ughhh! bathorrom renovations! Next time someone says it's time to do one of them, offer them tea and panodol for a headache. Pop over to my blog and see our reno still in full swing! LOL

I'm very Impressed with your ornament. Your Finish is Awesome!
Neat idea with the bead dabber. I bet that helps to keep them out from under long fingernails, until it's time to clean it off to put beads away. LOL!:)How's it work for you?

What fun it was to catch up on your blog, Meari. Your breast cancer ornament is stunning. As always I love reading your stories and seeing the results of your "treasure hunts." It's been fun to see everyone's variations on the retreat. Congratulations on finishing ABC Lessons. I really want to do that one sometime. Good luck with your next school session. Our semester starts in late August - the summer has flown by entirely too fast!

Love the Breast Cancer ornament.
What school do you take on-line classes? How would you rate it? Do you need any textbooks or is material all on-line. Just curious.

Chris (who has been thinking about an on-line class)

Nice ornament finish. I know the breast cancer one I made for someone touched their heart, which makes it worth the while!!! Volunteering for remodeling for someone else?? You are the handy person. I have a bead nabber and I have yet to use it! Love the tacky bob though.
