Marvelous Monday Update 8/2/10

Seriously, where has the week gone???? I feel like I've accomplished nothing!

SCHOOL
It was with baited breath... OK, maybe itchy clicky mouse finger... that I waited for final grades to be posted online. According to the classroom gradebook, I achieved 85.6%. A good solid "B". I was happy with that! But then... I received an email from the instructor telling us to add FOUR percentage points to our classroom grade. So, I thought to myself: Could I really be getting an "A"??? An "A" by 6/10 of a percent? Will the instructor round up? Yeah, it was a nail-biter, for sure.

Then life got busy, and I forgot about it until I received an email from Mel asking about my grades. Yikes... I forgot.

Drum roll please..... I GOT AN "A"!!!

You can't begin to know how thrilled I am, seeing as I got a "C" on the 3rd test, and the 4th (and thankfully the last) test was giving me serious fits. C'mon, I was stuck on three questions for two days! I was ready to pull my hair out. Wait... maybe I did.

STITCHY STUFF
Back in June, Cindy (Random Stitching Ramblings) hosted Summer Tour Giveaway. This is what she sent me:

A cute little fabric ort bag! I thought this would be perfect for traveling. Her photo shows the "Made For You" charm better than mine does. Thank you, Cindy!

I did a tiny bit of stitching this past week... and that was last night. Here's what Gentle Menagerie looks like:

I've been conflicted on the colors used for the goat. I kept hoping that once I started the backstitching, I'd like it better. A head would help, too. LOL Other WIP pics and what it should look like can be seen HERE.

Last week, I gushed on about the Summer Geisha in the UK Cross Stitch Collection magazine. Look what Viv sent me.....

Thank you so much, Viv!
I am a very happy camper :)

My partner received the Summer Mailart I sent her last week. I was working on this during the retreat. I converted the Rainbow Gallery fibers to DMC and revised the chart to fit a mailart envelope. Also, this was my first time using aida for mailart. Here's what I sent Anna in KS:

Design: Sand Castles
Designer: Erica Michaels
Fabric: 14ct Beige Aida
Fibers: DMC

In today's mail, I received mailart all the way from Australia. Here's what Margaret sent me:

Thank you, Margaret!

Cute Pattern. I think I'[ve seen that one. I might have it not sure. Aren't there 4 animals stacked on each other. Great progress so far.

I LOVE the cat and the sunflowers. What a cute chart. Congrats for the A. My online class starts tomorrow, but it's a staff dev. one, nothing but busy work.
Love how the animal stack up is coming. You do such lovely work.

An A, wonderful! I also love your wip and I'm so glad Viv sent you the book. I see a new gift for your mom. Your mail art is great and the little bag is sweet. Glad you got the plumbing fixed at such a low cost. Well I finished my popcorn so I'll sigh off for another week. Love your blog. Sandy P.

An "A" how wonderful! What wonderful exchanges you received. Love the goat, and from someone who has been involved in dairy goats for over 30 years, thanks Mum, they can come in every colour of the rainbow. Must put some photos up.

Woo hoo!!! I'm so proud of you Meari--what a wonderful feeling to get an A in such a difficult class :)

I love your mail art (both sent and received). It has always amazed me that it arrives in such good shape (especially considering some of the mangled and crushed packages/charts that I received yesterday!!)...

All the mailart stuff looks good. I've never tried this!

So you got the Cross Stitch Collection magazine with the geisha! I kept looking at it in the shop but didn't give in since I already have those two geisha designs in my JE book!

Congrats on the "A". Your mail art is beautiful. that ort bag is sooooo cute. Your doing a great job with the bed. I think it is going to be well worth the $20 when you get it finished. Great job with the plumbing. Glad it was only that little pipe & not the hot water heater. They aren't cheap. Thanks for sharing.

Can’t wait to see you work on the Geisha! I might get motivated and start mine too when you do!

I have done a few mailarts…they make me so nervous when they are traveling!!! That’s a great one you received!!!

Ooooh the ort bag is pretty cute. My dratted husband threw out my ort jar while packing to move house. I'm rather unhappy about that.

Love your mail art exchange project.

Hooray for the A! The ort bag is just lovely. I would make one for myself if I didn't already have a little basket I use for my orts. The mailart, both sent and received, is so nice! I've never been bold enough to try it myself. Oh, and I'm very jealous of the geisha pattern. Gorgeous!
