Marvelous Monday Update 7/11/11

GARDENING
My garden this year looks pretty pathetic. About a dozen spinach plants actually sprouted (out of two full rows). The cucumbers are struggling to stay alive. The watermelon sprouted but then either died or something ate them. They're gone now. The only things really thriving are the tomato plants and the sunflowers. My cherry tomato plant already had 4 ripe tomatoes, which I promptly scarfed down ate.

Well... they were thriving until this morning's massive thunderstorm passed through. :(

Here are some updated pics of my flowers:

SCHOOL
It's time to register for next semester's classes already. I'll be taking Financial Markets and Institutions. I've looked at the syllabus already and it looks like this class will keep me even busier than the one I'm in now. Every week there will be chapter readings, homework problems, online postings, quizzes, midterm, final, an essay, AND a term paper! Aye-aye-aye!

Next week is the week of finals. I hope I do well enough to maintain my A. Why do midterms and finals have to be worth so much?

RAK'd
Last month, Niina of Ilmattaren ihmemaa (Ilmatar Wonderland) hosted a July 4th blog giveaway. She stitched up "Land That I Love" by Pine Mountain Designs.

I was the lucky winner! In addition, she sent some candy from Finland. The chocolate was yummy. The other candy tasted like salty licorice.

The pillow will go great with all the Pine Mountain kits I won in Amy's giveaway. Thank you Niina!

STITCHY STUFF
I finished the stitching part of my mail art envelope last night. Woo Hoo! I'll be making it into an actual envelope sometime this week. I am so excited about getting it put together. I think the recipient will really like it. I'll have pics soon, so stay tuned!

Until next time,

(A shout out goes to Karen
for my newest siggie!)

We got the same storm 3 hours later!! Wow we got an inch of rain! Last year we got the tomato cages guaranteed not to break and they work like a charm! Carl's in 7th heaven. He loves BLT's and we've gotten 4 ripe tomatoes this weekend. Looking forward to seeing your mailart completed. I'm sure it will look great!

You've been pretty busy, Meari. I love the cross stitch pictures, that I see in your blog. The Japanses lady with the parasol. The snowman stuff... and the things, that you won are fun too. As for your gardening, it looks better than mine right now by far. The Texas sun is killing mine. The squash plants when to heaven of somewhere. lol.. I did plant some more seeds and hope something comes up. My herb garden is doing fine though. I enjoyed looking at your stitching and gardening pictures.

It's always fun to read your posts, Meari! I LOL when I read your "struck through" scarfed when you ate your tomatoes!!! Your garden looks like I feel when I go out in this heat! However, the flowers look wonderful!

I look forward to seeing your newest mail art, and I love your new siggie thing. Karen is a fine girl, and a great friend to have!

The goodies you got in the mail look great! This year our outside plants have been suffering as well, the weather has been so gosh darn odd at times, kinda disappointing. Have a good week.

Being just far enough south of you, we only had a little thunder, a little lightening and a little rain. It's the first rain we've had in 2 weeks, but it barely got the sidewalk wet.

Hopefully your garden will perk up and be ok. Your flowers look great.

Can't wait to see the finished mailart. The Pine Mountain RAK is really cute too.

great siggie!
Congrats on your win. My vegetable-garden is much less than usual as well, it's been too dry this year.

I can't believe it's time for another semester, Meari--will this leave you with only two classes left? I know I've told you before, but I so admire your determination in getting this degree (and your wonderful grades!!)...

Lovely gift from Niina-- and pretty flowers. Our garden has suffered this year as well. We only have one lone sunflower--all the other seeds were eaten by those nasty chipmunks...

Good luck with your finals next week :)

Ah your poor, poor garden. I hope the tomoatoes recovered from the storm. And you don't want to see my gardens. no time to really get them in shape so they are more weeds than flowers. :(
Lovely winnings. not one but two great giveaway wins.

My garden is languishing this year too.
