A Little This and A Little That

Where the heck did June go???!

Even though I've been doing quite a few little tasks around The Homestead, I don't have a whole lot to blog about. Here's the latest "news"...

WEATHER
The deluge of rain has stopped for a bit, but before doing so my Craftsman 6gal 2HP wet/dry vac died. Ya'll know that when it rains and rains and rains, I get water in my basement and the shopvac has been my saving grace in getting the water up off the floor quickly. I finally had time to "shop" for a new wet/dry vac on Saturday. I really wanted to get another Craftsman, but the Sears store in town only had 3 models that could hold 4 gallons or less. At Menards, they had the ShopVac brand. The 8gal vacs were on sale for $10 less than the 6gal ones so I ended up with and 8gal 4HP vac. Bring on the rain! On second thought, I could do without rain for a while.

STITCHY STUFF
Last week, I started a new project that I stitch during my lunch hour at work. Here's a progress photo after a week's worth of stitching:

It doesn't look like much right now, but it's been going pretty fast since all the stitches in the sky are half stitches.

Finally, I was able to finish The Black Cat into an ornament! As you may have noticed, I really enjoy doing flat padded ornaments.

Designer: Bent Creek
Fabric:  25ct Hand-Dyed Linen
Fibers: DMC, GAST, Anchor
Embellishments: Runched Ribbon

Lastly, I hope all my U.S. bloggy buddies have a safe 4th of July!

Until next time,

Good start for a week's worth of stitching. Love how you finished the black cat too.

NO MORE RAIN please!

That's good progress for lunch time. We only get 1/2 hour so I don't bother stitching during lunch. Happy 4th of July!

The vacuum may not be as interesting as new stash, but it is a "can't do without".
I loved the colors in the ballon glow. I can't wait to watch it grow. You do such fantastic stitching!
I hope you have a great 4th. My DH and I will be hermitting and refinishing the wood deck. Quite frankly, I'd rather be stitching! Sally

Hi honey; I am in Baltimore, but still reading your blog!! I am happy you were able to get a new shop-vac so you can get the water out of your basement.

Your new project is going to be lovely! I can tell by the colors. Also, I love your cat ornie....soooooooooo cute!!!!

I hope you and BF have a wonderful and safe 4th. I am heading home tomorrow; will take my time. Be glad to get back to Butch and Peanut; miss them terribly.

You're off to a wonderful start on your new lunch time project, Meari--it still amazes me that you can stitch with your coworkers in the lunchroom chattering away. I could do fill in stuff, but nothing where I had to count. Your kitty ornament is adorable--I always love a ruched ribbon finish :)

Let's hope that shop vac isn't needed for a while--you deserve a break from the rains. Enjoy your holiday tomorrow!

I love the cat ornament. Very cute.

I would love having the rain here. I'm in Northern California, where we just had a heat wave. I'm ready for Summer to end, and fall to come and bring the rain with it.

Enjoy the rain!

Meari,

Your Black Cat turned out really cute! That is a lot of lunchtime stitching on your Glowning Balloons.

I hope that you get that hole in the basement fixed.

Hi Meari!!! Love your new vac. I've been repairing electric stuff around the house, like the dryer, washer, hair dryer, glue gun... And now my heat gun is dead :( I'll take it to repair, but it's most likely I'll have to get a new one.

The cat is gorgeus!!! Cute finish.

Happy Independence day! We celebrated ours on the 5th.

Black cat turned out wonderful, what a cute ornament. I've not tried to make any of my finishes into ornaments yet, one of these days. Hope you haven't had to use your shopvac again since you got it, we got a ton of rain around here too and I had to borrow one, still couldn't keep ahead of the water. Been dry for a bit now, so hopefully that's the last of the really wet weather for the season.
