Journey Through Time

Have you ever thought about the evolution of your stitching area?  No?  Me either. Until just recently.  Sisters in stitching had posted photos of their "stitching nest"... prompted me to post some as well.  Heck, I didn't want to be outdone!

As I looked through my photos (and there are thousands, let me tell you!), I couldn't find a recent photo of my stitching area.  What I did find was two photos of previous areas.  Of course, this meant I had to tidy up my "nest" so that I could take a decent photo.  What better reason to tidy up, eh?

Let's start at the beginning, shall we?

When I moved into The Townhouse, I had very little stash.  In fact, I had stitched very little in the previous five years or so because an un-named exH complained about me doing it.  Pfft.  After moving to The Townhouse, I set up my $10 lighting solution and sat on the end of my sofa.

After purchasing The Homestead, I originally sat on the end of the sofa but eventually picked up a second hand recliner chair.  A TV tray became a makeshift side table.  I made the green tablecloth and topped it with a doily.  No one was the wiser.  Oops... I let my secret out. lol

Currently, I have a comfty recliner to sit in.  A music stand holds my charts and magnet board, along with a sock monkey beanie baby.  He's so cute!  My side table is now a 2-drawer cabinet that I refurbished (here).  As you can see, I still use the same light and MagEyes.

How about you?  How has your stitching area evolved over time?

Until next time,

It looks comfy and has definitely evolved for the better. Is that one of your painted file cabinets?

Well, I used to cross stitch on my bed (be it childhood bedroom or dorm room) with a floor lamp that I put a REVEAL bulb in so it was more like daylight. I would put one of those pillow backrests on it to help me sit up and then I would put another pillow on my lap to elevate my chart.

When I got an apartment, I put the same floor lamp behind the couch and had a designated end of the couch for stitching.

Now that I'm married with children, I "stitch on the run" making sure to only have the essentials with me without any stands or anything because the kids would just destroy it.

I love your recliner! I haven't got room for an actual stitching area so am more like your first photo on the end of the sofa...

Your space has certainly evolved Meari and that chair looks so inviting!

It’s the end of the sofa for me, with my stash struned across it and the up side of living alone is that no one’s here to complain when I stitch, other than BoJangles, who insists of sitting on my chart, my threads or me if he can, because I’m not taking any notice of him.
Happy Stitching!

Ahh Meari I had to laugh, I too had an exH (nothing dear about him except what it costed me for him to become an ex) He too complained about my stitching :@ Personally I think it is the noise that the needle and thread make passing through the linen... roflmao

Love your setup there Meari. Now, the DH has been wanting a recliner which I have been resisting. Now I might just buy one for 'him' ;)

I have a stitching area set up, but mostly I stitch at the end of the couch with my things strewn on the seat. My couch reclines at the ends so its technical more like a recliner than a couch. I also use lots of bags and baskets so I can make everything "disappear" in case of company!

Your stitching area looks like it accommodates you well. I don't actually have a stitching area. I sit where I am comfortable at the time, which might be the sofa or the chair or even the dining room table. Sometimes I stitch outside at the picnic table or on the porch swing.

Loved your blog and seeing how your stitching area progressed. I think I have photos of (part of) mine in my group album (mine isn't as tidy).

Can't believe your ex took issue with your hobby! You did well to ditch him, and that's not something I'd ordinarily say - but stitching is vital to so many of us, helps us keep our sanity, and should be respected by all members of a stitcher' s family. So there. ;-)

Your stitching area looks so comfy, Meari, and I love the music stand idea to hold your chart! I must have an old one laying around somewhere :)

Wonderful stitching area! You're always so organized.

My stitching area moves with me, either a side chair, computer chair or outside. It's my hope to actually have a real dedicated space ....

Love your stitching corner Meari!

We just moved and now are couchless and chairless - we need to get new pieces - the old ones were older than I am.

I really enjoyed seeing how your stitching area has changed over time. I have an extra bedroom upstairs that has turned into my all purpose room. :) I stitch in there during the winter. In the summer when it gets too warm upstairs I move to the end of the couch downstairs. I have a pie safe that I stuff everything into at the end of the night ~ very convenient. :)

Loved your stitching area through time posts. I don't have any old photos, but pretty much think mine has just expanded in the space allowed for it, and more items are left out for easy pick up and working on than always putting it all away at the end. Your sledding friends finishes are adorable, although I'm really trying not to think to much about winter, the last one doesn't seem that long ago still and it was really rough, not looking forward to another one.

So sorry to hear about your parents health issues. Knowing you're going to be losing your dad so soon would be so hard I can't even imagine, plus the stress of worrying about your mother. {{hugs}}

Your recliner looks very inviting. I do all my stitching sitting in bed in the evening. If I join DH in the lounge I have to listen to football, handball, golf, cycling, basketball etc. every single evening.
