Family, Finds, and Another Finish

FAMILY
My family had some sad news last week. My cousin had a heart attack and after being on life support for three days, the decision was made to let her go.  She was only in her mid 40's (a few younger than me.) and leaves behind a husband and two adult children. Even though we weren't close as adults, she and her siblings grew up with me and mine. We are all saddened by the circumstances and another family loss.

Last week was also the second anniversary of my Dad's passing. So many images of his last months still pass through my mind.  He showed a strength like no one I've known.  He wasn't the easiest guy to have as a Dad, but he taught us many things and had a quirky sense of humor when he let it show. We still miss him terribly.

TREASURE HUNTING
A couple of weeks ago, I went thrift store shopping to find a frame for Words 2016. While browsing, I came across a Keurig brewer for $30! It looked like it had been hardly used... No scratches, watermarks, or lime build-up. I plugged it in to see if it worked (i.e. could power up) and took it home.

The thrift store offers a 3-day return policy on electric items if they don't work. With that in mind, I attempted to brew something! No instruction manual came with it, so I had to wing it. (I did find a PDF of the manual online and downloaded it) When "Prime" showed up on the screen, I Google'd it and found that this was a common error message. I'm guessing this is why it ended up at the thrift store. Being the resourceful gal that I am, I turned to YouTube.  I watched three videos trying all the suggestions... the Keurig would NOT brew. Ugh. I watched another video and BOOM! It worked. I brewed coffee, tea, and hot chocolate just to make sure I really did resolve the problem. It's been working like a champ since. Thank you, YouTube!!

STITCHY STUFF
I did find a frame for Words 2016, but it's about 2" too large. I'm going to take it apart and cut it to the right size. It's on hold right now because my power compound mitre saw is at my parents' house being used for trim work. I may take the frame out there and cut it then bring it back home to reassemble.

I've had another finish! Here's what the original design looks like:

I'm not sure how I want to finish-finish mine yet, but it sure looks pretty. I've changed the colors to be more cheery and match the fabric.

So sorry for your losses. Prayers and kind thoughts are with you and your family.
It neat to find something great at a thrift store.
Love your stitching and good luck with the frame

Loosing a family member, although estranged is just as hard as loosing someone you see everyday. You have many memories that helped build your childhood, which is your foundation for today. Laugh about the fun times and make sure to share them with her kids, I know it helps.
Earlier this year I picked up that Lizzie Kate chart for my daughter, thanks for showing your finish, hopefully it will encourage me to dig mine out and get it completed before christmas!

Hope the frame resizing goes well!

I'm sorry to hear of your cousin's passing. Will be keeping you and your family in prayer.
Isn't it interesting and neat how something will bring back a memory of a loved one? My dad passed into the arms of Jesus in November of last year and something happened that just reminded me of my dad so much and brought tears to my eyes. :-)
Your Lizzie/Kate is lovely - I want to make that for my kids.

I'm sorry to hear about your cousin - we never know when it will be our or someone we know's time. You just have to enjoy and be proud of every day. I like your finish - anxious to see it framed. You will love the Keurig - they are really easy to use. My favorite is donut shop coffee with sweet irish cream in it! If your Keurig starts to slow down on you, just run a tank full of vinegar through it a couple of times and it will clean it right out. Have a great week - you have had enough losses for now - no more, ok?!! Judi in Phoenix

My condolences for your loss. But the bright colors of your completed stitching might serve to remind you of better days. Enjoy your Kuerig. We love ours. How else could we make four different types of coffee in the morning?

Oh, Meari - so sorry to hear about the loss of your cousin. Very tragic, especially one so young. It really seems to strike home when they are close to you in age. Really makes you think. Congratulations on your new Keurig and being able to fix it. You are so resourceful. I wanna grow up to be just like you someday. I like the color change you made to "Promise Me". Love that saying.

Such sad news about your young cousin, Meari--that always makes me so sad for the children, especially. She was way, way to young...

Your finish is so lovely on that pretty fabric. And, as always, I think you can fix just about anything you set your mind to!! Great job on the coffee maker--and great shopping :)

So sorry for your loss, it's especially hard to lose someone that young, much more unexpected. Nice going on the Keurig find, that was a great deal. So nice to have hot coffee and chocolate easily like that. Although with as warm as its been, chilled things sound better lately. My area is under another heat index warning, third straight day in a row.

Beautiful finish of Promise, love the colors you picked. That is such a fun piece, I stitched it awhile ago also. Looking forward to seeing how you finish it off.
