First Snow of the Season

Ack! Mother Nature really decided to make it hard on us. It started snowing yesterday around 10am. Then it turned to freezing rain. Soon it was reduced to rain. I woke up this morning to an inch of ice on my driveway. I managed to shovel the sidewalk in front of the house. The neighbor guy took pity on me and helped me clear the "junk" at the base of the driveway left by the snow plows. Then he tried to snow blow the ice off the angled area of both our driveways. It totally sucked! I managed to scrape the ice left that the snow blower couldn't get so at least I can get a running start up my driveway tomorrow, and won't be sliding out into traffic. Did I say it sucks? LOL My arms and chest muscles really hurt now.... I saw on the news last night that 12K people were without power. Mine blinked out for about 10 seconds last night, but that's it. First snow of the season and it has to be ice??!

Date Night

On Friday night, I spent the a couple hours in the company of a nice man. Neither of us had high expectations due to past experiences with dating. So, we both agreed we'd enjoy the evening... if we hit it off, great... if not, so be it. He chose an eclectic restaurant in the river district called Brio.

My date ended up parking a couple blocks away and figured I have to do the same, so he offered to meet me at my car so he could walk me to the restaurant (It was dark and the downtown area is known for not being safe at times). As it turned out he called to tell me he was standing in a parking spot in front of the restaurant, saving it for me. LOL (How thoughtful, huh? And it was cold out, too.)

I'd never been to a restaurant where you order all the courses and they bring them to you one at a time. I let my date choose and we shared them. Everything was pretty tasty. With each entree, he served me first. After that, we walked to a quiet little wine bar to have another drink and talk more.

Each time we left the restaurant and bar, he helped me on with my coat. Of course, there was all that awkwardness of a first date but I think he was more nervous than I was. It was refreshing, though, to go on a date with a man who had manners and was seemingly thoughtful.

A Bit More Like Home

In the past couple weeks, I've been doing a little of this and a little of that... I restained the bathroom vanity cabinet and changed the hardware.

Old Hardware

See all that yucky white stuff on the hardware? The cabinet had that stuff all over it, too. After some cleaning and staining, it looks like this:

Soooo much better!

You can't really tell by the pic, but the new hardware is a two-toned brass finish with a leaf on each side.

I have also started putting my own window treatments up in my living room. I've got my spare bedroom about 3/4 done. I can actually see 4 walls and the windows, plus the middle of the floor. LOL!

First Game of the Season

Anyone who's been following my blog knows that I am quite proud of my niece and her accomplishments. Earlier this fall, she and my sister moved an hour away so I don't get to see her nearly as often as I have in the past 15 years of her life. I do miss her!

Her first basketball game with her new school was played against her teammates at her old school. Unfortunately, my niece's school lost in the last 18 seconds of the game. :( Her new coach likes her and she gets to play a lot. Here's some pics of her first game of the 2007-08 season. (She's the one with the ball. LOL)

SNS2 Ornament Exchange 2007

This is the third year I've participated in the SNS2 Ornament Exchange, and the second time I've received a great ornament from Dee. Dee was the first person I'd ever done an exchange with when I was a newbie to internet stitching groups. She's a wonderful lady. Thanks Dee, for the ornie. I really like it!

There was an extra surprise in with my ornament. Dee sent me a Christmas Boyd's Bear label pin. Isn't it cute?
