BLIZZARD 2011
For the first time EVER, my company sent us home early on Tuesday before the storm got extremely bad... and gave us the day off on Wed with pay! The snow fell and the wind howled. By the storm's end, my area received 14" of snow which isn't too bad but combine it with 40-50mph winds and drifts of 4-6+ feet occur. I considered myself lucky in that I only had 4ft drifting.
With the help of "Push" and "Little Blow", I managed to chop my way through and get the snow moved to the front and backyards.
I did take a 20 minute break to have a snowball fight with the neighbor kids. The look on the teenage boy's face was priceless after he realized I threw a snowball at him while he was trying to shovel snow. He got me back, though. Next thing I know, all three kids were throwing snow, lol. Good times! :)
By the time I was done clearing the driveway, I had pulled a muscle in my upper back and sprained my wrist. The lower half of my body was realllllyyy cold, as was my face. My entired body was sore. I knew if I went in the house, I'd never make it back outside to finish, so I persevered.
A bit of Humor:
COOKING
Over the weekend, I made the BEST chicken enchiladas. It was a new recipe I found, and definitely a keeper. Of course, I changed the recipe a bit :)
STITCHY STUFF
There have been a few comments about how I stitch while talking on the phone. Easy peasy... headset! I bought this Plantronics one as a Christmas/birthday present to myself.
It actually works pretty good. I can walk to practically every room in my house without having to take my phone with me.
Toward the end of my snow day, I finally started to feel better so I did a little bit of stitching on Blossom Splendor. I finished one page (of eight)! and started on the second page. Here's what she looks like now:
You project is going to be wonderful. I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteAnd you pic of the sick of cold and snow is the best ever. I have to send it to a friend of mine in Maine.
I love you blog and your sense of humor and I always look forward to your posts
Linda

ReplyDeleteYour Blossom looks beautiful. I love the colors.

Maybe next time you could 'pursuede' the neighbor kids to help you 'push & little blow' with some of those enchiladas! LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat stitching too...
PS It's 75 here today, if you want to come visit...LOL
Had to rub it in again!
WHEW! Lots of the white stuff! Glad you made it through okay. I know you must have been real sore; hope either a real hot shower or bath helped.
ReplyDeleteLoved all the photos and the Blossom Splendor is looking fabulous! Love the fabric and the colors.
Hugs,
Sue
Yikes, that's alot of snow. Shame you can't get the neighbor kids to shovel it for you. Picture of the gloves in the snow is priceless, really really neat idea.
ReplyDeleteYour newest project is looking very beautiful so far, I just know the end results will be marvelous! That storm last week was something else, we got hit hard by it too, my son had no school for a few days, glad that storm is over for all of us!
ReplyDeleteThat was nice of your company to send you home early with the next day off. Good luck rescuing all those people from your yard. That was brilliant I loved it. Enchiladas look yummy. Be careful up there.
ReplyDeleteTina

ReplyDeleteLove the show hands, I picking it up for facebook.
Sounds like you had fun with the snowball fight.
NOW you know why they tell us old folks not to shovel snow, LOL!
ReplyDeleteBlossom Splendor looks awesome and for someone who does other things, you got a lot of stitching done on her. She's going to be beautiful! Beautiful stitching as well.
Oh, I love that photo of the gloves in the snow, Meari! I'm sure you're feeling like you've had more than enough snow, aren't you? Luckily, the storm missed us--we've been very lucky this year.
ReplyDeleteChicken enchiladas--yum! Would you mind sharing your recipe?
Pretty stitching--glad you got to do at least a bit on your snow day...
Glad you are feeling better. Blossom looks wonderful. I have ordered some fabric and can't wait to start stitching again.

Your WIP looks great!!! Wow, that is alot of snow. Glad I'm out here where today the high is to be 71. The enchilada's look sooooo yummy.

Betty in AZ (ILCS)
Wow, that's lots of snow. nice to stay home and get paid for it, even if you did have to shovel snow and throw snowballs at the neighbors...LOL :)
ReplyDeleteWe only got about 12" but I think you got the brunt of the wind, it was pretty calm around here so we didn't get the drifts! I feel for you and the snowblower since I've SEEN your driveway! Nice stitching....but I'm still waiting for JG.
ReplyDeleteWe dodged that snow bullet Meari and I am so glad we did! Still, it was pretty dicey getting around here so I can just imagine how bad it was for you.
ReplyDeleteBlossom is looking beautiful!
You planning to share the recipe for the enchiladas?
That is a lot of snow, it is too bad you could not get the kids to help you shovel the snow.
ReplyDeleteI like your funny picture with the gloves in the snow.
Your enchiladas like delicious.
Your stitching is looking pretty so far.
Marl
ROFL with your snow gloves! Nice stitching. Have a good day off and stay safe!

ReplyDeletePretty progress on Blossom Splendor. The colors are so sweet.
Hey Girl - I fell for you with all the snow. How many days were you out of work? I have kids and hubby home for most of last week due to the weather.
ReplyDeleteBlosssom Splendor is beautiful. So how long do you think it will take you to finish it?
Stay warm. I still ahve the bucket list, just need some solitude to get it done.
Have a great day.
CJ
Meari,

I;m so sorry that you received so much snow! Wow the news coverage only showed the traffic snarl ups. Your photo shows the true aftermath...that was a lot of shoveling! Hope your body is a fast healer!
ReplyDeleteLove the pics of the sense of humor with the gloves lol. The chicken enchiladas look yummy.
ReplyDeleteWow that truly is a lot of snow!
ReplyDeleteStitching is lovely as always. And I sooo want enchiladas now!
Holy cow! Look at all that snow!!! Seeing all these snow pics make me think that snow shovelling should become a new winter sport for the Olympics! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your stitching - the colors are gorgeous, can't wait to watch this one grow.
Enchiladas look yummy! Care to share the recipe? (I mean, it's not like you're super busy or anything) LOLOL
That's a LOT of snow!
ReplyDeleteYour chicken enchiladas look yummy!!
Love the progress on your stitching
Love the hands pic!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's some snowstorm. What fun to stop and snowball fight with the neighbor kids!
ReplyDeleteLove the mittens. Take care.
I love the picture from the snowstorm with the gloves. I chuckled for an hour or more. Your stitching is looking phenomenal and this is one of my favorite blogs to read!
ReplyDeleteA snowball fight sounds like a bunch of fun right now! Our snow levels today have dropped down to 1,000ft. Very unusual for these parts. I would still have to drive almost an hour to get to it though :(
ReplyDeleteHope your back and wrist are feeling better.
I tried talking on the phone while stitching and I ended up having to frog. I guess I can't stitch and talk at the same time. At least I can still walk and chew gum at the same time, lol!
