Elaine's post prompted me to share my solution to stitching on dark fabrics.
Stitching on dark fabrics can be challenging for some. There are a couple of things I've done to made it easier. For awhile, I put a white pillowcase over my lap and then positioned a lamp so that the light reflected off the white up to the backside of the dark fabric I was stitching on. Currently, I use this:
It's a 12x12" light GE slide viewing light box that I picked up at a yard sale for $1. I just place it on my lap and the light shines up through the back of the fabric.

Meari,
I like your solution too. We stitcher's can be pretty resourceful when the need arises.

Hey, there's another solution to the problem of stitching on dark fabric...
Stitch on light fabric. ;-)
Seriously, though...you have a good alternative to the super expensive light boxes you see at crafting stores!
Good idea1 For me I go cheap! Work only on sunny days with a white towel on my lap!
Great idea. There's actually one on the market in the UK that has a cushion on the bottom for your lap - rather like those lap trays. I will see if I can find the link although I don't think you will get one for a dollar! The guy who makes there used to be my framer but found he could make more money this way!
