Tale of the Neverending Puddle

Remember all the water in my basement from the flood? There was a spot by the water heater that wouldn't dry up. I thought maybe it was coming down the chimney... at first. Since it didn't dry up and seemed to be getting worse, I came to the conclusion the water heater needed to be replaced. I don't know why... it's ONLY 17 years old! (The date installed is written on the side)

I wasn't sure what size it was, so I had a friend come look at it. Apparently it wasn't the water heater at all. A little, itty-bitty 3" section of water pipe (above the water heater) had sprung a leak and was dripping down the water heater causing the puddle.

No more leak... Priceless!

After the water was turned back on, it was nasty black. Disgusting!! After seeing inside the old pipe, it makes me not want to drink my water anymore. Ugh!




Disclaimer: I didn't replace the pipe. They were on there pretty tight so my friend did it.

What Does $20 Get You?

Two summers ago, I purchased a twin size bed for my spare room. It was beat up well used, but for $20, I got the bed frame, mattress and box spring. My plan was to paint it in order to give it new life.

After getting it home and looking at it, I found the manufacturer's name burned into the back of the headboard: Baumritter (the forerunner of Ethan Allen furniture).

I decided I probably shouldn't paint it. Last summer, I sanded the old finish off. I did take photos of "before" however they were on the same card that got corrupted with last week's flood photos :(

Fast forward to this past weekend. I started staining... a bit humid, but eventually it did dry. I still have a ways to go, but some pieces have their second coat of new stain.

Remember I mentioned the community that was totally under water? A friend of mine sent me a link to this video of an idiot someone driving on one of the roads going out west of town. I actually lived farther west on this road when I was married.

Marvelous Monday Update 7/26/10

SCHOOL
I wonder if any of you could hear a huge sigh of relief on Friday night, about 10:30pm? That was around the time I submitted my final homework and test online... after intermittent internet connection. I am officially done with the semester!!! I won't know what my final grade is until next week, but I have a good idea that I finished with a "B".

Summer Geisha is supposedly in the July UK Cross Stitch Collection #186. Anyone have the magazine and not want the chart??

Unfortunately, I haven't had any time this past week to do any stitching.

I did manage to catalog my GAST threads in Organized Expressions. I don't like how the interface is to add new threads to the inventory. It makes sense to make it so when you add, it goes directly to the thread database, but it doesn't. It's kept in a separate database.

In case you're wondering, I got out JG... the chart, the threads, and WIP are on my sofa waiting to be worked on.


NEW JOB
Readers who've been with me a while know that my employer cut my hours. While I'm grateful I still have a job, the 20% pay cut really hurts! Last week, I interviewed for a part time bookkeeper/office manager job. That was the easiest job interview I've had in a long time! I was offered the job on the spot. There are some "perks" to the job: Flexible hours (I can set my own hours), no dress code (He said I can wear shorts, jeans, whatever I'm comfortable in), and I got the pay I asked for. The downside: It's a temporary job. They have someone to take the job full time when the company's financial position improves. My first day was last Friday. I also worked a couple hours on Saturday (Yes, I braved the flooding even though the Sheriff's dept encouraged people not to travel).

I almost forgot! Celeste had an appointment at the doggie beauty salon. I told them to cut her hair shorter... Why do they take it to the extreme?
