Calling All Opinions!

I dug through my stash of fabrics last night to see what I could come up with for the Lizzie Kate ABC Lessons. It was a choice of off white, white, or this:

The floss is Crescent Colors, and that wad
on the far right is all the DMC colors in a bundle.
The fabric is Silkweavers Sudden Storm
28ct Cashel Linen. Does it look too dark?

I've been doing quite a bit of stitching on TMQ. I'm finding out that it's certainly going to be uniquely my own, as I'm having to change the design in order for it to fit in the center part of the afghan. In stitching the "quilt squares", I've already changed colors and will probably be changing some of the colors for the center motifs as well. Here's what I've done since my MM update:

And another view:

More WIP pics can be seen HERE.

Incidentally, I found out that I might need to go back to remedial kindergarten (lol). After completing the "H", I happily stitched half of the next letter "J". Whoa, wait... A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H.... I! Doh!

TMQ looks great, the colors work well together. Don't really like the dark grey with the colors of floss, for the LK but that is just me. Maybe a lighter color??

The silkweavers is a lovely fabric, I think white or off white wouldn't look as good and the Sudden Storm may look darker in the photo than it actually is. Try a few stitches of the main colour and see what it stands out like. Your stitching is lovely.

The TMQ is really humming along, and I'm loving watching it grow. If the Silkweavers fabric is as dark in real life as it is in the photo, I don't know that your colours will "pop" as you might like them to. If it were just a shade or two lighter, it would be perfect.

Hi Meari,
I like the bright colors on the darker fabric, but the one of the right (darker red variegated?) may get lost as well as the gray. I always love looking at the slide show of things you've done. So lovely.

TMQ looks lovely. As for forgetting the "I" you could always have pretended it's one of those really old alphabets that doesn't have the "I" and the "W"...

I think Sudden Storm is a bit dark, but definitely try stitching a couple of the major colours to see if it would work.

Meari, TMQ looks fabulous! Great job. Love the pattern.

Not sure how I feel about the Sudden Storm fabric; I think a lighter gray, maybe Pewter would contrast better? I still haven't decided on mine...LOL

Hugs,
Sue

TMQ is looking really nice!

As for the fabric choice - I think it's a little dark, personally. I'd be tempted to dye some of the white or off-white with tea or coffee to get a shade a little nearer the one in the model photo.

I'm also not a huge fan of very mottled fabric with overdyed threads - usually one or the other but not both. But then again, I'm a girl of simple tastes ;o)

Happy New Year, looking forward to following your adventures in 2010!

I love the fabric choice for your L*K I think you should go with that, the colour seem to 'pop' on it.

As for you missing the letter out on TMQ it made me chuckle, I hope you didnt have to rip out too much to put it right. Loved all your 2009 finishes and looking forward to seeing what you stitching in 2010.

I love silkweavers fabric so of course that would be my choice. Love the border on the center square of TMQ, looking good.

Hi Meari -

I have to agree with Nic about Stormy Nights it is too dark. But ultimately it is your choice.

Your TMQ is comng along nicely.

BTW - Is your blg supposed to have a white background?

I like the Sudden Storm, Meari - it doesn't look like it'll be too dark. LOL about remedial Kindergarten. Do I qualify? When I stitch, I can't always count to 3. :)

TMQ is lovely. Not sure about the linen for ABC - I think I'd go for the white or offwhite!

Great slideshows.
Happy New Year Meari!

I think I would go with an off-white, or dye a piece pale grey. I think the stormy skies is a bit dark.

Great progress on TMQ! I think coffee dying the white or off white would be a good idea for ABC. I think the Stormy fabric is a bit dark and kind of clashy but that's just me.

Happy New Year!
