Marvelous Monday Update 2/18/13

Happy Monday!!  It's been a couple weeks since my last update.  How've you been?

WORK
It's been 60 days since I started my new job.  It's gone by so fast and it feels so comfortable... that I've been there many years.  We had another birthday potluck/treat day last week to celebrate the February birthdays.  I tried out a new recipe.  Fudge Brownie Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Frosting.  Work starts at 8am.  By 8:15, there were only 3 left.  By 10am, they were all gone!  Since I had lots of frosting left over, I made more cupcakes over the weekend.

A tidbit of infomation: Walmart sells Wilton decorating supplies. JoAnn Fabric sells Wilton decorating supplies. Walmart sells the large decorating tips, but not the couplers to go with them. JoAnn Fabrics sells the large coupler, but not the tips. Go figure! I imagine the JoAnn Fabrics Superstores probably have the tips, but the smaller stores do not.

MORE COOKING
Last week, Valerie at FogCity Dweller mentioned on her blog that she made Curried Shrimp Chowder. Like Valerie, I felt that some changes were needed. I added a little over 2 times more curry, extra basil, canned roasted tomatoes, extra garlic, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch as a thickener. I also used a 12oz package of shrimp.  I also left out the celery because I didn't feel like buying an entire bunch of celery and use one stalk for the soup.  I added celery seed as a substitute.  If I were to make this again, I think I'd leave out the coconut milk and use cream of chicken soup instead and would add more bacon - maybe just another strip. All that aside, it tasted pretty good and made a huge batch.

RANT
Remember at the end of December, I was privvy to that huge snowstorm? I had someone with a plow truck come and clean my driveway. He pushed the snow onto part of the sidewalk. Then, I was sick for 3 weeks and didn't get the snow cleaned off. I came home from work one day with a notice taped to my front door saying that I could pay the $20 fine or appear in court for violation of the snow ordinance. I paid the fine. The court date was 2/14.

When I went to the post office last Saturday, there was a notice for a fine of $75 for a "failure to appear" in city court! Argh!!! So, now I'm going to have call and chew some butt and get that thing revoked. Can you say one hand not talking to the other? (i.e. City Finance Dept vs. City Attorney... who's a putz to begin with)

STITCHY STUFF
Once again, I've been procrastinating over working on Japanese Garden.  I don't know why I do this because once I get started, I enjoy working on it.  Last week, I started a new project called Stars Over Pines.  I finished it last night -- my third finish of this year.  Since I stitched it over-one, it ended up being about 2 1/2 x 3" in size.

Designer: Blue Ribbon Designs
Fabric: 28ct Silkweaver Opalescent Lugana - Ivory Shimmer
Fibers: GAST, WDW, DMC
Stitched One-Over-One

Until next time,

As for the city???? I would send them a bill for the meds you may have had to take while ill and could not clear the snow!!!!! Buttwads.....HMPF! Paybackss.....lol

I love the Stars over Pines and wow, over one thread. I really don't see well enough to do this, but it sure does make a beautiful finish!

Could you email me the recipe for the Shrimp Curry soup? Would love to try this while recuperating; while Laura is here....thanks!

Love ya,
Sue

Cupcakes and soup, okay now I am hungry and it's only 7AM. Perfect little ornament finish. Over one always adds to the intensity of the colors and the design. CJ in OK

The cupcakes look yummy! Your latest finish is adorable! I am sorry to hear about all of the stress over the snow ordinance thing. I hope you get it resolved. I hope your week is good

I know I would have helped destroy those cupcakes - they sound and look SO GOOD...

Your Star over Pines is beautiful, great choice for Winter Stitching.

Can you send some of those cupcakes my way please?? They look absolutely delicious!

Hope you get the city straightened out Meari. We can't have a warrant out for your arrest. They would probably track you down and actually arrest you. The real criminals it seems never get picked up.

Cute finish!

Scrumptious cupcakes and they look so professionally made!

Love Stars over Pines on that sparkly fabric. Will you finish it as an ornie or do you have other plans for it?

Can't wait to hear how it was dealing with your city.

Meari,
The cupcakes sound delicious! I love peanut butter. The soups sounds yummy.

I guess in the case of Jo Ann's and Walmart they want you to shop around so you wind up going back and forth?

Wow! Sounds like the City needs money in way they can get it. Good thing you paying attention.

I love your finish of Stars over Pines.

Hugs!

Ugh! The government sounds like they are idiots. How frustrating to have to deal with that. I hope it gets sorted and you chew their ears off!! Hmm, I may have to try that curry shrimp recipe since I love both so much!! Lovely little ornie you stitched! It is so wee and tiny :D Those cupcakes also look very tempting and tiny so it wouldn't be so bad to eat three or four right?!!

I am so happy to hear you are liking your new job ;)

Your finish is adorable. How will you complete it?

That fine business has got to be so frustrating. Is that normal, to fine you if you don't clear off your sidewalk even though the city plows put the snow there?

Stars over Pines is lovely Meari.
I always have to remember that what you call 'shrimps' we call 'prawns' and shrimps to us are something entirely different but similar to a prawn lol.

Ooooo, the cupcakes sound and look yummy! You tried the chowder. Glad it wasn't just me that thought there was something missing. I forgot about cornstarch as a thickener. Huh. I do have to say that the freezer soup really hits the spot. Maybe it's more of a tastes better as leftovers recipe.

Sounds like the job is a perfect fit! I know what you mean about the Mandala's. I haven't worked on mine in FOREVER, but when I get it back out, I'll really enjoy it! Are you on Pinterest? There are some great recipes that people post on there.
