Marvelous Monday Update 7/26/10

SCHOOL
I wonder if any of you could hear a huge sigh of relief on Friday night, about 10:30pm? That was around the time I submitted my final homework and test online... after intermittent internet connection. I am officially done with the semester!!! I won't know what my final grade is until next week, but I have a good idea that I finished with a "B".

STITCHY STUFF
OMG! Have you seen the latest by Joan Elliott?

Summer Geisha is supposedly in the July UK Cross Stitch Collection #186. Anyone have the magazine and not want the chart??

Unfortunately, I haven't had any time this past week to do any stitching.

I did manage to catalog my GAST threads in Organized Expressions. I don't like how the interface is to add new threads to the inventory. It makes sense to make it so when you add, it goes directly to the thread database, but it doesn't. It's kept in a separate database.

In case you're wondering, I got out JG... the chart, the threads, and WIP are on my sofa waiting to be worked on.

NEW JOB
Readers who've been with me a while know that my employer cut my hours. While I'm grateful I still have a job, the 20% pay cut really hurts! Last week, I interviewed for a part time bookkeeper/office manager job. That was the easiest job interview I've had in a long time! I was offered the job on the spot. There are some "perks" to the job: Flexible hours (I can set my own hours), no dress code (He said I can wear shorts, jeans, whatever I'm comfortable in), and I got the pay I asked for. The downside: It's a temporary job. They have someone to take the job full time when the company's financial position improves. My first day was last Friday. I also worked a couple hours on Saturday (Yes, I braved the flooding even though the Sheriff's dept encouraged people not to travel).

CELESTE
I almost forgot! Celeste had an appointment at the doggie beauty salon. I told them to cut her hair shorter... Why do they take it to the extreme?

"I'm so ugly, I'm cute.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!"
Other photos are HERE.

Good luck on getting your B. It is always nice to have something like that finished. I do have to say Celeste looks a LOT cooler now. I think the sigh of relief probably came from her! LOL.

Poor baby - she does look a little shorn...but still a cutie! I imagine she feels better, too. Congrats on finishing the sememster well and the new job! You never know what it can lead to. :)

Celeste looks like what I do to one of my other dogs too! But I bet she feels better. I love that Summer Geisha also, such beautiful colors. Sorry I don't have the mag.

The flooding looks terrible!
I don't think that issue of XS Collection is out in the US yet....I saw the geisha in the preview ad from the last issue, though. :)
I LOVE the divorce story! :)

congrats on your new part-time job. Poor doggie! It doesn't even look like her anymore. Wow SG is beautiful!!!

So it's a good thing hair grows back although I doubt Celeste cares much. She is still smiling!!! Probably feels just wonderful.
The flooding is awful. 120 gallons of water and that was just a smidgen of what others got??? Oh my, those poor people. Glad you didn't have it in your house. Like the doggy groomer...sometimes too much is too much. Keep us informed.

I just LOVE the shrimp story! That is sooo funny!!!!

But seriously, I'm glad you didn't have that much damage from the waters. What a scary thing to watch happen. We had a tornado warning at the beach yesterday. A little scary as the wind and rain started whipping around, but no tornado so it wasn't too bad.

Oh, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for your "B" and your new job.

Celeste is adorable! And probably much easier to keep cool.

That geisha is gorgeous. Such a pretty face she has!

I love the Geisha chart too Meari. I have a couple of Geishas of hers in a book - A Cross Stitcher's Oriental Odyssey- so I guess I ought to try one of those before getting an extra one in a magazine!
I was interested in what you wrote about Organised Expressions. We have just had a new pc and I was thinking it was just about time I got all my stash organised so I'm looking at different possibilities. What do you think of it as a whole - would you recommend it?

Woohoo! Glad to hear the first day at the new job was good. :)

That is a gorgeous pattern Meari! If I see the magazine here I will pick it up and send you the pattern for sure!

Poor Celeste. :( But it'll grow out.

Hello Meari! For once blogger actually updated itself in a timely manner and I saw you had posted!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you get an A. I have faith in you!

Poor pupper looks a bit silly but seems to be happy in spite of it. I think Gracie will probably be cut a bit short this next time. She's very matted for some reason.

The Geisha chart is gorgeous. I hope someone has the chart and will let you have it.

Horrible about the flooding. The weather this year has been really funky. I'm hoping this winter will not be more of the same.

Congrats on the part time job. Hope it leads to bigger and better things.

Have a great week!

Congrats on the job, it's always wonderful when the fit is just right :D. I think Celeste looks not only adorable, but she must be feeling so cool. Chin up (literally) I was flooded in a couple of years ago, not nice, take care.

Woohoo! School's out here too :) I have the whole magazine here in my hand at this moment, and it's your's if you want it :) Just remind me of your name and snail mail address and I'll get it in the post to you some time in the coming week.

Congrats on the part time job! I hope it lasts as long as you want it too.

Poor Celeste. :( I HATE when groomers do that. I mean unless the poor dog is covered in mats and there is no other option they have their hair for a reason. Cutting it that drastically is a shame. Especially when she is so pretty. I do hope her coat grows back soon. :(

Sooo much water!! I saw a similar storm when I was in the US in 2001. So, I can imagine how terrible it'd have been.
Congrats on submitting your finall assignment and the new job too :)
Would update the bloge very soon :)

Congratulations on finishing another class - enjoy your two week break from school. Your pictures of the flooding are amazing. We've had a few houses out here get some flooding as well. You don't think about that happening in the desert, but it does. Glad you got a new job, even if it's only temporary. Don't you love those really casual environments?

Oh dear. I'm glad your home is ok. We've had so much flooding in the US this year. I don't know if it's more than normal of if it's just making the news more. And poor little Celeste!!!!! LOL!!! 'Nuff said! The Summer Geisha looks like a perfect project for you!! Hope you can find the mag! She's lovely!! And congratulations on the 2nd job!! Yey!!

Poor celeste. I don't normally condone clothes on a dog but she looks like she needs something! Does her hair grow fast? I hope so.

Congrats on the new job, even if it is only temporary.
