The "Gods" Are Against Me!

That's my story... and I'm sticking to it.  There's just no logical reason.  Since the beginning of the year, I've had a run of bad luck... sort of.  It started with this:

You know the spring that holds your hair between the spoon and the barrel? Yep, it broke. Had to buy a new curling iron. That was in January.

Then my blow dryer sparked BIG TIME when I went to turn it on. Burning plastic smells terrible. Had to buy a new blow dryer.

Next, the motor on the CD player of my Panasonic Stereo died. So now I'm on the hunt for a nice compact stereo that doesn't cost and arm and leg.

After that, the EGR valve on my car took a crap and the failure burned ALL the oil out of my car. It could've resulted in catastrophe if it hadn't been replaced when it was.

On Monday, I was going to check the oil in the car and the yellow loop on the dipstick broke off! The dipstick was wedged in the tube. The BF was able to get it out. Trips to two different auto parts stores resulted in having to order a new one, which won't be here for a week. Had to shove the broken dipstick back into the tube so that I can drive the car to work.

I bought a desktop humidifier like this back in January for my desk at work. It's so dry there! Today, I went to the water cooler to fill it up and the cap broke off! I took it back to Walmart to swap it for a new one and air conditioners have replaced humidifiers. I opted for a refund... without a receipt, the clerk was going to give me $15. I paid $30 for it! I pulled out a photocopy of the receipt and I got a full refund. But, now I'm out a desktop humidifier. :(

To top off my tale of woes, I turned on my stitching lamp... hoping to put in a few since I haven't done much in the past week. The bulb blew!! Luckily, I have a desktop version that I can swipe the bulb from until I get a replacement.

Seriously? What else can break?!?

Now for some good news, LOL...

WORK
Did I mention one day is set aside each month to celebrate the birthdays of employees born that month?  Last Thursday was the designated day for March.  There was an entire cubicle filled with goodies:  fresh fruit, orange juice, chocolate milk, cookies, taco dips, BBQ, deviled eggs, and many desserts (I can’t remember what all else!).  I made Oreo bonbons and put them on a 2-tiered silver petit four server.  I thought it made a nice presentation.  :)

Until next time,

Meari, reading your blog post reminded me of a comedy of errors, or perhaps Murphy's Law. Hopefully you replaced your stuff with better stuff. At least you can laugh about it!

Pretty sure you don't want an answer to what else could break, lol. On the upside, the things that broke have been relatively inexpensive to fix/replace.

You might have to wait until next fall to find a desktop humidifier. I found a cute one that looks like a tea kettle made by Holmes.

Birthday treats once a month is such a fun thing to look forward to!

I may have had my own personal meltdown with all that going on. You handle it well. CJ in OK

Maybe you should go thru your house and garage with a silver cross and point it at everything - LOL. Makes you wonder why you get out of bed some days. Hang in there - it can only get better.

I would have thrown in the towel by now! This year is not starting out so well for you...hopefully the dipstick gets fixed, you find a humidifier and nothing else goes wrong.

Do I need to roll you in bubble wrap just to be sure...lol!

Hi Meari, you haven't broken a mirror lately? It sounds like you are due for a run of good luck.

Oh my! You certainly HAVE had a run of bad luck. It's got to get better now! Good luck!

Oh Meari, I thought that things like that only happened in threes, so you’ve certainly had your fair share. Hopefully thing will get on an even keel from now on and rest of the year will be ‘breakdown free’ for you.
I once had a coach holiday where things went wrong every day. As luck would have it, apart from one couple, everyone could see the funny side and we all said they have filmed it for ‘Game for a Laugh’.
It’s can be so frustrating when the bulb goes in your stitching lamp.
Mine went recently too and I luckily had a spare to hand. I’ve got into the habit of getting myself another spare straight away if I change one because I’ve been caught out in the past and with the bulbs being the screw type you can’t just change them with any old bulb to get you by.

Happy Stitching!

Think they need to sort out this word verification, this is my fith time of trying and it's so frustrating.....aaaggghhh!

I wouldn't dare ask what else can go wrong. LOL I have had times like these as well and sometimes you just take the hits and keep on going because there is no other way. I swear I am anti technology because everything I touch electrical seems to blow up, break, work different then it is supposed too or i have little work arounds to get things going. My hubby just shekes his head and laughs. I don't even dare try new stuff, most of mine is hand me downs or used without error previously. I will be sending good vibes your way and hoping your luck takes a turn for the better! Chin up

I'm so used to you being able to fix everything I'm kinda shocked you didn't fix these things haha. Hope everything stops being so stubborn for you.

I don't think you want to ask, what else can break... But, with the exception of the car motor, which luckily you averted in time, nothing was huge.

Think of it this way, maybe you have gotten all of the breakdowns out of the way for the year?

Don't you just hate it when things break down?!

On the bright side, now you have a great ull time job and an income - it could have been worse!

I am late posting honey, but oh my! You poor dear! I know the feeling well, though, it seems when it rains, it pours. I am hoping the next month will be better for you. I am finally recuperating nicely and can walk unassisted, mainly in the house. When I go out I do take my cane or walker, just in case I need them. This was the best surgery I ever had; and I hope that you and BF have a wonderful Easter. We will be home alone this year.

Love ya,
Sue

I so enjoy reading your weekly updates. But goodness, don't temp the gods by asking what could be next! There are water heaters and things.....

Meari,
I've had things like that happen. Hopefully that will be the end of that.

What fun your office/work does for individuals! What a great way to keep up the Morale!

Be careful about asking what else can break. Something else just might.

The company you work for sounds like a great company!

I'm hoping your next post will have a recipe for Oreo bon-bons - they sound delicious! Maybe the gods just want you to let your hair go natural, walk to work and breathe dry air while you're there, lol.
