Marvelous Monday Update 3/24/14

WEATHER
Spring is slowly crawling its way in my area.  Most of the snow has melted and its wake the nasty brown stuff has been left behind.  We're due for a bit more snow today and tomorrow, but possible temperatures in the mid to upper 50's by the weekend.  I am so looking forward to leaving winter behind!  This last one was the 8th worst on record for my area.

HEALTH
I think I'm finally getting over the cold I have been battling with for the past three weeks.  The cough has been lingering... and lingering... and lingering.  I've had more energy so I think I'm on the downhill slide.  Let's hope!

I think I've mentioned a time or two that my employer has a healthy living incentive program.  We have to earn and maintain a certain amount of points for certain healthy living activities (pre-determined by an outside provider) in order to get a discount on our health insurance premiums.  Last week, some coworkers and I participated in a 3K Run/Walk.  It was my first one.

(I'm the one in red)

STITCHY STUFF
In last week's mail, I received the Stitchers Day Exchange from DJ (Tickled Pink in Stitches).  She stitched it over-one and made it into a beautiful little flatfold.  I am so happy with it.

Thank you, DJ!

I received word from DJ that she received the exchange piece I stitched for her so I can now show it.

Design:  Stitcher's Heart*
Designer: A Mon Ami Pierre
Fabric: 28ct Silkweaver Opalescent Cashel Linen
(Shimmering Romance)
Fibers: DMC
Embellishments: Handmade Cording, Beads

*At one point in time, this design was a freebie offered by A Mon Ami Pierre.  It's no longer on the website, but perhaps they could email by request.  Worth a try...

Last week, I started Petal Pincushion mentioned in a previous post.  I've cut out all the fabric pieces and have stitched the button and most of one side.  This will be my new work "lunch hour" project.

I finished the Spring/Easter mailart that will be going to Anne, but I can't show photos until it arrives in Canada.  That counts as the fourth finish this year.  Woo Hoo!

I pulled out JG yesterday and made a bit of progress.  Much to my dismay, I think I may run out of a couple Eterna Mini-Twist colors.  I did a search online and I would end up paying twice as much for shipping than I would for two skeins of floss.  I emailed Stitchers Paradise for a quote, but haven't heard back yet.  Anyone know of where I can get the floss with reasonable shipping?  Or, does anyone have Eterna in their stash?  I'm looking for 4110, 290, and 2840.

Until next time,

I hope spring arrives for good in your area soon! I am also so sick of winter and it was mild here!

I love the friendship flat fold piece!

Your flatfold is lovely! DJ did a nice job; the heart you stitched is beautiful; love the colors too!

I wish I had the threads you need for JG :( I have not even heard of Eterna; glad you are feeling better and hope that pesky cough is gone real soon.

Glad you weather is starting to clear; I think everyone will be happy to see spring this year!

Love,
Sue your SM

Meari I always enjoy your weekly updates.

You really have been a busy stitcher. I love the finish on your flatfold and the Stitcher's Heart is exquisite.

Even though I now think that I have a lot of stash, Eterna Mini Twist is not something I have ever seen.

Congratulations on your walk!

At my workplace we also have lifepoints for a variety of activities and we get to cash them in for prizes. Since we already have universal healthcare in Canada, our prizes are gift certificates for reataurants, shops and movie passes. I look forward to cashing mine in at the end of this month.

Beautiful exchange pieces on both sides! The Petal Pincushion is going to be gorgeous, can't wait to see your progress on it.

Glad you are feeling better - if winter ever leaves we might all get over these colds and coughs; hopefully one day soon!

Lovely exchange on both sides! Love the blues in DJ's. And your finishings are beautiful as always! :D

I love winter but I'm ready for this one to be over, too. We'll be getting a dusting (gosh, I hope it's only a dusting) tonight followed by the warm up. My flowers seem to be hesitating, buuuu!

G'luck on finding your threads! I haven't even heard of that brand before.

Love the exchanges. I don't know when we will get Spring either. Snow today and tomorrow. May get warmer this weekend but I'm not holding my breath.

The stitching is beautiful! Congrats on your walk! I'm doing a 5k for March of Dimes next month for our office.

I've checked both 123stitch & Stitches N Things. Neither of them carry it. Send me exactly what you are needing & I'll check the shops here in town.

Beautiful exchange pieces! You both created lovely finishes. The petal pincushion is looking good as is JG.

Congrats on completing the 3K! Where did you do the run/walk? I just completed a 6 mile walk with DD over the weekend. It was really cold!

Think Spring!

Great update Meari! I am so glad that the cold is finally passing and that you were able to participate in the 3K.
Both pieces for the exchange are so lovely.
Your needle is smoking. I hope that you find that floss quickly!

Hope your cough goes away soon. We have the same program where I work but since I am on my DH's Ins. I can't even participate just for my own health. Your exchange is beautiful. I really like how you finished yours. I am sure DJ loved it. You had the 8th worse winter in your area & we had one of the best winters here. Our average high this winter was in the mid to upper 70's. I hope it doesn't mean we are in for an extremely hot summer. Your work piece is going to be beautiful when done. Looking forward to seeing it.

So glad you're feeling better. Woot for you for participating in the walk/run. That had to feel like a major accomplishment!!!
The exchanges, both sent and received are gorgeous! I always love the patterns you choose...
The start on the new stitching just shouts spring - I hope Mother Nature is listening!!!!
Good luck finding the floss....JG is sooooo beautiful - I keep being so tempted to start one of these "gardens"....I'm weighing my life-expectancy vs the time it would take me to actually finish one. Lol
Enjoy your "warmer" temps. :)

The flatfold and heart are both so beautiful! Good for you for going on a Run/Walk and getting discounts! At first I thought the numbers were everyone's weight, then their cholesterol level, but I suppose it's just your entry number! LOL

Good luck finding your floss! If you're on Facebook, there is a group called Stash Hunting where you can make a request to see if anyone has it.

I would love to work for your employer--they sound like they truly care about their employees! You look great, Meari--congrats on the 3K :)

Your exchange from DJ is so pretty--I love those colors! And the heart you stitched for her is adorable--beautifully finished as always! Good luck on locating your thread.

It's snowing here now :( At least it melts quickly at this time of year!
