Marvelous Monday Update 1/11/10

If it ain't one thing, it's another.... LOL

LAPTOP
Lucky for me, I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer. Unlucky for me, the laptop power cord had been acting up (or at least that's what I thought was wrong) and the battery wasn't getting charged. Even more unlucky is the desktop computer sits in my 3-season room that I keep closed off during the winter months. It's about 32F out there right now. Shortly after Christmas, I ordered a new power cord (hoping it was the problem child). It arrived in the mail last week. Score!! The laptop is back in business, and I don't have freeze my patooties off trying to use the desktop. It's too bad they just don't sell the top portion of the photo because that's the part that died. Oh well.

HOMESTEAD CHRONICLES
Why do things always seem to break at the most inopportune times??? During the freezing, frigid temps my garage door opener decided not to cooperate. It opened halfway... for which I am thankful, because the side door has a lock on it and I don't have a key! So, I step inside the garage and push the button, the door goes up about 1 1/2 feet and decides to die completely. No power. Fuse box in the garage. Check. Circuit Box in the house. Check. Reset button on opener. None. Fast forward a week or so. I climb up on a ladder for the 2nd time to see if the wiring is loose. Out of the corner of my eye, I spy the outlet attached to the rafters where the opener is plugged in. It appears that the vibrations from the garage door opener, made the plug come loose. Not enough to be obvious, but enough where the opener wasn't getting electricity. *Hmph* For a week and half I'd been getting in and out of the car to manually open the garage door because.... the darn thing wasn't plugged in!

STITCHY STUFF
Absolutely no stitching done last week. I guess I was mentally gearing myself up for school to start, so I focused on getting things in order for that. I did get a stitchy windfall, though. One of the ladies on the freecycle group listed a bunch of items she was wanting to get rid of. One was a "bunch of cross stitch thread". I emailed her, and she said it was mine. :) She also happened to be coming into town that day, so she delivered it. How can you beat that?!

Most of it was DMC, but there was a couple JP Coates and maybe a dozen Anchor skeins.

My DMC Windfall

Oh aren't electrical gadgets fun!!! They can be so very frustrating. I called a repairman one time because my furnace didn't work and the kids had turned the switch off!
Great little windfall there!

Good luck with your classes, and at least you figured out the problem with the garage door. Nice floss pick up too.

You did get a lot of floss thee. Hopefully you won't have to buy any for a while. I had to laugh about your garage door experience that would be something I would do, not discover it for over a week.

Sorry about the garage door issue, but think of all the exercise you got for a week! LOL Great going on the free DMC!
Good Luck with school

Sorry about the laptop. At least it was somewhat easy to fix. Our garage door died last week too. Unfortunately it really, really, died and my poor DH had to install the new one in single digit temps!

That is awesome that you were able to figure it out. I can never do stuff like that.

Good find on the floss!

Good luck with classes! Tonights class was cancelled here due to icy conditions :o( Gotta love the technology, huh?

Congrats on the stash (lucky you!), good luck with classes and electronics. My beloved seat warmer in the car just died, I was trying to "fix it" this morning with no luck, so my poor patooties (love the name, never heard before!) will get frozen until I have time to take a trip to Canadian Tire, our supply for motor vehicle gadgets.

Glad you got that garage door fixed! Darn things anyways.

Lovely floss you got. Now to see it in use. ;)

Nice job grabbing the floss!

I was grinning about your garage woes. Last time the fuse went out my mum was convinced that the power was out in the neighbourhood. Even though the microwave's clock was working! My brother had to drag himself out of bed to fix it, grumbling all the while about women and electricity!

Good to hear you were able to fixed the garage door.
You sure lucky with the floss.

HI Meari! That was a nice windfall you received! Sorry you got no stitching done though.

You are one lucky gal though that your electrical problems were easily and inexpensively fixed. We haven't been so lucky around here!

Have a good week!

My dell laptop did the same thing. I bought a cord off of amazon & presto fixo.

Good luck in school this week. I know you will do great! You are such a hard worker!

I had a chuckle about your garage door. Although it must have been totally frustrating in these temperatures that the door didn't open itself. At least it was an easy fix.
Good that your laptop works again,

Glad you got your lap-top working again. I also have issues with the garage door, and have to check the circuit breaker. What a nice set of floss.

I must admit I got a chuckle out of the garage door story, pretty funny. Glad the laptop is working, you are a regular Ms Fixit.

Hey, do you remember where I might find some free cute dragon patterns to stitch? I remember seeing soem when I was on ILCS, but I cannot recall the site.

Have a great Tuesday.

The garage door story, while probably not funny at the time of the incident, really made me laugh. There are times in our lives when we just Homer Simpson it...doh! Good luck with going back to school.

Great winfall Meari. Sorry you had such trouble with the Garage but at least the problem was small. And glad you can use your laptop again.

Glad both the laptop issue and the garage door issue were easy fixes even though it must have been a pain.

What a score of that floss!

Good luck with your classes.

Glad you got both the laptop and garage door back to working order. How frustrating on the door to discover the plug had just jiggled loose, expecially in the cold winter (however, it may have been better than in rainy spring to have to have been getting in and out to do it). Lovely floss stash you managed to get.

I am hopelessly behind on blog reading!! Better make my comments now before you post another Monday one!! I hate when the garage door breaks! It's one of those things I really take for granted! I fixed my parents cell phone this weekend (I turned it on!!!! LOL) Hope you are getting into the school routine and can make time for your stitching again!

Instead of college, I think you should get a reality show about your life...the things that happen to you never cease to amaze me! Love reading your blog! You got a great floss windfall from Freecycle!

Oh, the floss, a stitcher's orgasm, free floss!

Years ago a friend used to say, "Satan lives in electrical equipment." You might just be a case in point, Meari!! LOL Seems like you've had a lucky, unlucky time these last few days. Sending hugs and best wishes, Deb
