Stitching, Stashing, & Shopping

Not necessarily in that order :)

Remember a week or so ago when I realized I could wear size 10 slacks? At the same time, I bought a new beaded watch with a matching bracelet. Normally priced at $55 (Why, I don't know!), and on sale for $20. Is it cool, or what?!

JoAnn Fabrics is having a sale on the Darice beads (40% off) and Favorite Findings Buttons ($1/pkg). I got the star sequins on a whim. All of these cost me less than $3.75! I'm debating whether to use the stars (vs. silver or gold seed beeds) on my March ornie.

I found these goodies at the Goodwill Thrift Store.

I started Rita's RR last night. This is my progress after 1.75 hours. It's called Spring Bluebird by Waxing Moon Designs.

SBQ - Finished, Now What?

After you stitch a pattern or kit, what do you do with it?

In two words: It depends. How’s that for an answer? LOL

Now for the long version:

If it’s chart or kit I know I won’t be stitching again, I will put it on my Stash for Sale blog. Which reminds me, I added some new things over the weekend and will be adding more soon.

If it’s something I think I may need in the future, I’ll keep it.

I’ve been involved in a few PIF’s (Pass It Forward), where a stitcher will stitch a chart and then offer it up to those who want to stitch it. A list is formed. When the chart arrives, you’re supposed to stitch it up right away and then Pass It Forward to the next person on the list. It’s rather fun to watch as various people get it stitched up.

Women's History Month

Here's wonderful poem Audrey Hepburn wrote when asked to share her "beauty tips." It was read at her funeral years later.

"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, even more than t hings, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others."

FACTS ON FIGURES:

There are 3 billion women who don't look like super models and only eight who do.

Did you know Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14? (She also did not have good hygiene.)
Can you believe that?

If Barbie was a real woman, she'd have to walk on all FOURS due to her proportions!

The average woman weighs 144 pounds, and wears between a size 12-14.

One out of every 4 college-aged women has an eating disorder.

The Models in the magazines are AIRBRUSHED!!! - NOT Perfect!!

A psychological study in 1995 found that 3 minutes spent looking at a Fashion
Magazine caused 70% of women to feel depressed, guilty and SHAMEFUL!

Models 20 years ago weighed 8% less than the average Woman. Today they weigh 23% less......

BEAUTY OF A WOMAN

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows.
The beauty of a woman
With time, only grows.

An English professor wrote the words: "WOMAN WITHOUT HER MAN IS NOTHING" on the
blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly.

The men wrote: "Woman, WITHOUT HER MAN, is nothing."

The women wrote: "WOMAN!! WITHOUT HER, man is nothing!"

THE IMAGES OF MOTHER

4 YEARS OF AGE My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF AGE Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either!
16 YEARS OF AGE Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE Wish I could talk it over with Mom. . .

Monday Update 3/3/08

Stitchy Stuff
Even though I didn't finish my snowman RR, it's due to be sent out today so in the mail it goes. I'll finish my square when it comes back home. Here's what it looks like so far:

I'll be starting to stitch on Rita's RR this week. I also started stitching on my March ornie. It's a design by Velda. I finished the basic stitching and am in the process of adding a few embellishes before making it into an actual ornament.

Look at this CUTE fabric!!!

I got it at the Goodwill Thrift Store. It's actually a king size pillowcase that I am going to turn into a case for my 26" scroll rods that Japanese Garden is on.

Getting Fit
With my Dad being in the hospital this week, my fitness routine was thrown out of whack. I did manage to get in three aerobic workouts. There's something good that comes out of snowfall! LOL I also did my WATP 3-mile video. I really enjoy this one. It gives a good workout for my upper and lower body... especially lower.

I haven't said this lately, so here goes: I love FREECYCLE! This past week, up for grabs was a bunch of workout videos. Guess who was the lucky recipient?!? Moi!

Dad Update
I brought Dad home from the hospital Friday night. When my Mom and I arrived at the hospital, he was sitting in his chair with no shirt. Apparently, the ambulance didn't put his shirt with his belongings when they arrived at the hospital. So, he just put his coat on and we went home. The doctor decided not to put a pacemaker in, and adjusted his meds. He'll be following up with the doctor today then it'll be back to the VA hospital for treatment.

My sister called my cell phone when I was taking my Dad back home. She wanted to talk to him, so I handed him the phone and turned on the overhead light to the car. He had no idea how to use a cell phone, so he looked at it, turned it over, and asked how to use it. I told him he just needed to put it to his ear. By this time, I realized he turned it over and started laughing and told him he had it the wrong way. He was trying to talk into the backside of the phone! LOL My sister could hear what was going on and she was laughing, too. My parents definitely not technology savvy! LOL That was our humor for the day.

This & That
Homemade lasagna, anyone? Yummm!
