Joe, the average worker says:
"Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their lazy butts, doing drugs, while I work...
Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?
Something has to change in this country -- and soon!
Guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out'."

Seriously AWESOME idea. CJ ok;-)
I 100% agree.. I have totally been in favor of not only this idea.. but involuntary sterilization for those who keep having more babies to get more welfare.. and I say all of this as a one time recipient of welfare benefits when I was a single mom.. and i only did it for a period of months while I searched high and low for a job I could support myself and my child on without welfare.. and when I got that job I called my case worker and said - cease all benefits.. she was shocked to say the least.. I realize that some people need more help than I did.. but if they cannot afford to pay their own expenses - then they shouldn't be able to afford drugs either.
I also am in favor of involuntary sterilization for men that keep producing children and don't support them - causing the mothers to have to go on welfare.. the men might not be on welfare themselves, but they are putting a lot of mothers and children on it.. they either don't work, or work under the table to avoid child support.. and then basically nothign else gets done to them.. I guess some could be put in jail -but for how long? And they just go back to the same behavior when they get out..
perhaps you didn't want all this on your blog.. I will get off my soapbox now :-)
I like that thought!
Not a bad idea at all. I like the urine or you're out line! Funny!
Oh YES!!!!!
Meari..your a STITCH ! ( sorry, I had to say it !) I love the "Urine, or your out" line....we should start a movement :).
As far as your comments LM...ROCK ON !! I am SO, SO tired of helping those who won't help themselves ! And those who keep reproducing without any thought, or sense of responsibility.
The only way to make a real change is to demand it !!
I LOVE your posts, Meari. This latest showed up in my Google Reader (good grief I love that thing!) without a preview blurb on the CSF Yahoo Group.
I so, so, so agree about the testing. Someone mentioned the struggling single moms, and I'm proudly one of them. I have been lucky enough to avoid any assistance, but I *DO* look forward to the tax credits when I file in January/February. Now that I'm putting my oldest through college and myself through a Masters program, it's ROUGH. And more of my check goes to someone to sit on his/her rear end while I struggle!
Love the last line--you've such a way with words.

Very cute, and dead on too. I totally agree they should have to be random tested and if they can't pass they don't get the check. If we have to take the test, so should they, fairs fair.
Congratulatons too on your two month anniversay. I'm glad it is going so well, he sounds a great guy. The ring is gorgeous. Looks like a fun movie too, glad you had a good time and nice weather.

Priceless and so true! Love the last comment!
How funny...and true! My hubby will love this.
That is so true. I know my neighbor would have to get off his lazy butt and support his family if he had to take a urine test.
So true, never thought of it that way before but it makes great sense.
AMEN!
(Ironically, my word verification word is amene)
