My First Time

Since Julie was brave enough to blog about her first time, I figured I could man-up (or would that be girl-up? woman-up? lady-up?) and share my story.

Even though I was a shy girl, I had no problem going down THAT path and taking the plunge, so to speak. It was easy, really. Unlike Julie, I didn't need coaxing or a diagram that told me exactly how to do it. I just looked at some pictures in my Mom's magazine, and experimented.

At first it was a tangled mess, but it didn't take me long to get into the swing of things. I just went at it slowly and soon I had what I needed. By the time I had finished, I was seeing pretty colors -- blues, pinks, and maybe even a bit of yellow. Ah what an exciting and blissful experience! I could see the writing on the wall. My world would never be the same.

My First

My first project was a birth sampler (mine, actually) that designed myself by using motifs I'd found in one of my Mom's old magazines. I found a piece of basketweave fabric in my Mom's fabric stash and untangled a wad of embroidery floss that was at the bottom of her sewing case. I still have it, and actually know where it's at! The sampler, that is... not the wad of floss, LOL.

Wow Meari. That's great for your first time. I started with a Dimensions Charts and Charms pattern. I can't believe I started so hard but it was a dragon. I never finished it and have NO idea where it is.

I was a little confused as to what I was going to read about. Glad it turned into a stitching story! I started with crewel in 1981. They were Christmas pieces and kits. I have them hanging. I really need to lace them properly and get some better frames. The masking tape on the backs are brown and brittle!

Gee, I don't recall my first project. Does stamped cross stitch count? In that case, mine was a table cloth. (not yet finished!!)

You did great your first time! You and Aiden have the same birthday and were both little babies. He was 3 lbs.5 oz and 16 inches long. As usual, I enjoyed reading your post and you gave me a smile this morning.

I have to admit I wondered what you were talking about at first also. I started out doing crewel stitching - I believe they were Sesame Street characters. I did quite a bit of it. Then I did stamped cross stitch but hated it as I could never quite hide the X's. When I discovered just regular cross stitch I loved it, but did not like the patterns. Now I find too many that I like and moved on to different fabrics, including linen - which I was really nervous to use.
