Meari's Marvelous Monday Update 9/8/08

Weather
Mother Nature has been very finicky lately! Last week started out with 90-92F temps (the first time this year). By Thursday, the aftereffects of Hurricane Gustav arrived causing temps to dip to 59F. When the weekend hit, temps were in the 70's and are expected to stay there for a week or so. I actually had to wear socks to bed one night because I was SO cold.

Getting Fit
My round booty is still struggling to get into a workout routine. I've been managing to get in about 2 workouts a week... not nearly enough if I want to firm up and lose some pounds. But! Better than nothing. I have to say that I absolutely LOVE the WATP low impact/strength training videos and the Sexy Abs workout. I've been getting up early and doing both of those before I go to work.

Stitchy Stuff
Guess who I'm meeting this week?! Nancy from MI! We've been going back and forth working out the details for over a month, and now it's finally happening. We are BOTH excited. I'll be picking her up in the next city east of me and she'll be staying with me until Sunday. :)

The Wedding

I've uploaded a bunch more photos of my brother's wedding to my multiply albums HERE, now that they both have had a chance to see them all. That's just a small sampling of the photographs I took. In total there were 200-300.

Sunday Dinner
I was watching the Good Housekeeping show on Saturday afternoon and they were talking about saving money at the grocery store and how much cheaper it is to make meals at home. Well Hello?! Of course it is... and it's healthier... and if made from scratch, you don't have all those preservatives of 'convenience food' in a box.

A recipe for Italian-Herbed Roasted Chicken was shown and I thought... "Dang! That looks GOOD." I had everything except the chicken, which I picked up when I went shopping on Sunday. I've never roasted a chicken before, and it's really not that hard. And boy-o-boy, was it ever scrumptious and juicy!

Does this not look yummy?!?
I think it's comparable to the one on the website!

Green beans, fresh from the garden :)

Meari -

I love to roast chicken and your picture looks scrumptious, thanks for sharing this recipe. I love your SIL's dress, very different. You mom looks as if she wants to be young forever--good for her.

Ah, roast chicken. It's so simple and so good. We call it Napoleon chicken after we read that it was Napoleon's favorite meal. Have a great time with Nancy.

Gee, are you going to make a dinner like that when I am there?? Just kidding, we may not even be at your house for dinners!! Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your projects up close and personal! Just having a weekend of girl stuff will be a nice change! See you Friday!

Meari, You and Nancy will get along great. She is really nice. I went to a stitch in at her house (I think a year ago). Great pictures of the wedding.

Have fun this weekend with Nancy & be sure to get some pics for us to see. Your chicken looks mighty tasty and I think I'll make some tonight on my George Foreman grill. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Well, it's 4pm and nearly dinner time anyway. Lovely wedding pics. You sure do beautiful photography.

Yummy! We used to have chicken like that all the time when I was a kid - must give it a try again!

Mmmmmmm...looks yummy!! Try it with 2 smashed cloves of garlic, 1 med onion sliced in quarters, and 1 orange sliced in quarters stuffed into the cavity. VERY moist and delicious! I hope you and Nancy have a wonderful time together!

The wedding pictures were lovely, and your meal looked delicious. Homecooked is so much tastier, as well as healthier and less expensive like you said. While most of mine are homecooked, I think homenuked is probably more appropriate as they are microwaved frozen and canned meals primarily. I really need to start cooking again. Especially now that it is getting a bit colder, a pot of soup simmering makes the house smell so wonderful.

Your earlier finish of the biscornu for your PIF for Rene looked beautiful. What lovely colors, she must have been thrilled to get that as a treat. Your start on LK's Peace/Love piece for your friend at freecycle battling breast cancer will be so pretty finished up, and the thoughtfulness of your making it for her much appreciated.
