Last week I worked like a dog getting 5 chapters worth of homework done BECAUSE I thought the week we do reading of said chapters is the week homework is due. Wrong! It's due the following week after we get lectured over the chapters. So, I was a week ahead, LOL.
MAGENTA IS NOT AUBURN!
Like my mother, I started getting gray hairs when I was 16 years old. At 26, I started getting my hair colored. A year ago, I decided to start coloring my own hair due to changes in the finance department: $60 at a salon vs. $10 at home... Hmmm. Granted, I *do* miss my 2 hour "therapy" session with my hairdresser of 12 years, but I digress.
It was *that* time again... so I made my monthly trip to the store and decided to try something different. For those who don't know, I'm brunette -- I was born with black hair. At the store, I chose a color called "Auburn Black". I looked at the pictures on the box. You know, the ones that show you what color your hair will look like if you're blonde, brunette, black, etc? The photo for black hair looked exactly that... black with a slight brown highlight. My inner self said, "Be brave... try it" So I did.
The application went well. No different than any other time I've done it EXCEPT the color had a pink/red tint to it. It wasn't until the next day at work that I saw the REAL color.... my gray/white hair was turned....
MAGENTA!! Not auburn, not even a red... but Magenta!
The brand I used was Feria which is made by L'Oreal. I went to their website to complain and found no email address or phone number for contact. *Grr!*
STITCHY STUFF
Carol (Just A Virginia Girl) is doing a stash reduction with some of her Blackbird Designs and Lizzie Kate charts. I've secretly coveted the LK's 12 Blessings of Christmas. When I saw that Carol had the entire set at a fabulous price, I contacted her.
Not only did she send me the charts complete with charms, she also sent the flip-it border and the bonus tree topper. Now... I just have to get busy and stitch them up!
Since I was ahead on homework, I had some time to stitch. Woo Hoo! I almost have the pig done on GM:
CHARLEY
Guess what? Charley laid an egg last night! Of course (as warned by the previous owners) she "poops" it out from the highest perch and it crashes to the bottom of the cage. I was a bit worried about her all weekend because her feathers were fluffed up a lot... then I read that females do that when they're getting ready to lay an egg.
I have been leaving her cage door open when I'm home. When I first open it, she quickly climbs down and comes out the door for a rub on the head and some attention. Then she'll walk around on the door and climb on sides. She's "found" a new toy: The handle on the top of the cage flips back and forth. She has figured this out and will flip it from one side to the other. When she's in the mood, I can get her to "step up" on my finger or arm.
TREADLE UPDATE
On eBay, there was an auction for "singer treadle parts". There were at least 3 pieces I needed, so I bid and ended up getting them really cheap. One of the parts missing from my treadle when I got it was the bottom bobbin sliding door:
There was a needle plate and both bobbin doors in the package of parts. I spent a little time cleaning corrosion and dirt off the bottom door. Now I can see my reflection in it!
I still need to clean the needle plate and upper door. Doesn't the bottom door look awesome?
YUM-YUMS
I made these pancakes over the weekend. I'd never had them before, or even knew such a thing existed! My photo doesn't show it, but the tops should be slathered in tomato or spaghetti sauce.
I'm going to hold a little contest. The first person to guess what kind of pancakes these are, will get a little stitchy something from my stash pile. I will announce a winner on my next MM update. :) Plus, I will share the recipe!
FAMILY
Lastly, I found out this morning that I became an auntie again (late last night). I have another niece to add to the 6 others! My poor nephew... looks like he'll be the only boy cousin, LOL. Harlee Ann decided to enter the world early. Weighed in at 6 lbs 3oz, and was 18" long.

Zucchini pancakes?
They look like lykes? or potatoe pancakes, YUM!!!
Sharon
I wanna see pics of your hair! :) LOL I've never dyed my own, but I used to get highlights. I stopped when my hair got too long because (1) it's expensive to use that much chemical and (2) it takes so long to put in all of the highlights when your hair is this long, that the front ones turn platinum. My skin tone doesn't work with platinum, LOL. The foil wrappers leaked once, and I had horizontal tiger stripes, LOL. The hairdresser wanted to LIGHTEN ALL of my hair to try to hide the stripes. I vetoed that and suggested dying the stripes back to dark. :)
Karin
Look like potato pancakes to me. Would love to see you hair too! Great stitching, congrats on the parts for your sewing machine and the great haul on stash! Take a deep breath and enjoy the week of homework free.
OOPS!!!!!! sorry forgot..Congrats on being Auntie again too! Lucky Harlee to have a great auntie.
The Ferria hair color (I am pretty sure) says not to use it on gray hair. I know this because I did the same thing to my hair not too long ago. It has to do with those "shimmering highlights" they advertise.
Love the stitching as always and BIG CONGRATs on becoming an auntie again.
Good news about the haircolor is that light can be covered up with dark.
But then again, magenta is such a nice color!
My guess is that you used spaghetti squash or zuchinni in those pancakes..which sound delicious by the way! Sorry to hear about your hair fiasco! Have been there myself a time or two..lol
My guess is spaghetti squash in those pancakes or zuchinni! sounds yummy whatever it is! when i was in Holland they made the most delicious giant flat pancakes that they topped with spaghetti sauce....they were so yummy....sorry about the hair fiasco anc congrats on the new niece...love the name!!!
Meari, well, I would say Mandarin or Chinese Pancakes with some sort of stuffing; if you are using sauce for the top maybe some cheese stuffing?
Congrats on acquiring all the LK ornaments!
Your treadle looks fab and I am happy you found the parts you need.
Many blessings to the new baby girl!!!!! I know you will love spoiling the little one.
Hugs,
Sue
I would think they are zucchini pancakes... yummo! :)
I think you used spaghetti squash in the pancakes. The one thing with hair is the color won't last too long and you know better not to buy that color again.
Congrats on th enew addition to the family! Love her name. I would love to see pics of her and your hair. LOL :) gre3at pic of Charley. Wouldn't it be nice to have a family photo?????
Congrats on getting all the Lizzie Kate designs, I just love Lizzie Kate! Your stitching is coming along and congrats on being an auntie again!!!!
Congrats on your new niece Meari! I love her name!
Teresa
Potato pancakes, and I would eat them with apple sauce :)
Congrats on making the mistake of getting homework done a head of time.
Oops about the hair coloring. I usually have my family laughing at me as occasionally I will miss a strand here and there... I just told them I did that to make my hair look natural. LOL
Congrats on getting all those wonderful LK patterns... (add drooling here.)
Stitching looks great. Yes each animal can be considered a small finish.
Congrats on the egg... hopefully you will have something come form it.
Glad you were able to get the parts for the machine.
Congrats on the new niece!
Huge congrats on becoming an aunt again and kudos on getting the treadle pieces you needed.
I say each animal should count as a finish.
And, I think those are squash pancakes. I've been meaning to try them.
I would guess spaghetti squash hun; I dye my own hair and only use Loreal; Medium Golden Brown, I've learned from experience not to switch. LOL Love your "dating" stories...
Congrats on becoming an Auntie, and I want to see a pic of the hair LOL
Meari, I would guess potato pancakes. Thats what they look like to me.
Thanks,
DebbieM

I would guess potato pancakes but that's already been guessed several times. Congrats on being an auntie again. New babies are so sweet. And I know what you mean about the hair coloring. I have gray hair and wanted a tiny bit of red when I had it done several years ago. Can you say HOT PINK? My hairdresser wouldn't let me go until she had redone it all.
My guess is they are potato pancakes.
Ahh, the adventures of coloring your own hair. I finally, after a few mishaps like yours, found a color I like - L'Oreal Preference Medium Reddish Brown. I get a lot of compliments on the color. You might want to look at it. It holds well.
Congrats on another venture into Auntiehood!
A week ahead on homework. Way to go LOL.
Love the blog! You have done a great job making and keeping it interesting Meari. They look like potato pancakes to me. Look yummy!
And you don't post a picture of your hair??? I'm sure it's toned down a bit now. Congrats on the LK purchase. I like lots of her stuff. Nice job on getting the sewing machine parts and cleaning it up. Should look spectacular when done!!
Better to be a week ahead than a week behind with your course, Meari!
Pictures--we need pictures of your hair! I know mine turned orange once when I was coloring it myself and I think that was why I finally started coughing up the money to go back to my hairdresser (and his free therapy--or should I say mine! He is the one with all of the problems!!)
Are they spinach pancakes?
What fun to have a new little niece to spoil--congratulations to your whole family!
Congrats on the birth of your niece.
I once dyed my hair a red shade, but it looked like a deep royal purple in certain light. I think something like that has happened to everyone at least one.
Happy Stitching,
Annette
I bet you shocked your coworkers! I'm with all the other ladies...give us a pic, please!! Congrats on all of your wonderful finds, both stitching and sewing!
Congrats to you Meari on becoming a new aunt! Hope you get to see her soon...will be looking forward to a picture.
Hugs, Shirley
Congrats on your niece!
Your stitching is lovely Meari.
Hmm no idea, but maybe cheese? Here we tend to eat pancakes with sweet stuff, like sugar and lemon lol
What a great stash of LK! You your stitching looks great and at least you are ahead in the school work instead of behind :)
Sorry about your hair. Is there a way to undo it?
Heidi-ILCS
GM looks fantastic!
congrats on your niece.
Great find on the new stash.
I'm guessing potato-pancakes
hmm... I have to agree with Shelleen on this one, spaghetti squash sounds just right. Congratulations on homework done early and stitching (no you can't count each animal as a separate finish).
Hugs, for the 6x auntie xoxoxo
Congratulations Auntie Meari! I love your new niece's name!
Debbie
Okay, I just GOTTA go there - - please post a pic of the hair. :)
Has anyone ever heard of anyone who doesn't have at least one "bad" hair experience? If they have - I'm betting it would turn out to be an urban legend. I've never been "magenta", but I've been lemon yellow...love lemon flavoring - not so much the color on my hair. LOL
It sounds like your new little lady bird is warming up to you quite nicely.
I'm guessing zucchini for the pancakes? I've had them before, they were yummy! I've cubed zucchini before and cooked it w/ spaghetti sauce...it's delish! :)
Congrats on the new niece! What a lucky little girl to have an "Aunt Meari". You may have a little stitcher in training on your hands. Cute name, btw! :)
Hi Meari,
I think they are zucchini pancakes! Charley is cute! Congratulations Auntie Meari!

Oh Meari, I'm so sorry about your magenta hair! The sewing machine looks awesome..what a difference your cleaning has made. And I'm glad you're able to find the missing pieces to it.
How about a zuccini pancake...only thinking of that cause I have a huge one sitting on my counter right now that I need to do somehting with.
congrats on being an aunt! I would guess potato pancakes but some of the other guesses of people seem more reasonable. Good luck on school. I started college when I was almost thirty and I had a first grader and a four year old. It wasn't easy but I finished in five years and I have been teaching full time for the last fourteen years.
Congrats on being an aunt again!
I'm jump on the bandwagon and say potato.
As for the homework, better to be a bit early than procrastinate and have to stay up the entire night to write two papers from scratch for the next day. (of course I don't know anyone that happened to ;)
Congrats on the new little one in the family. Such fun it is to be an aunt.
I am working on the 12 blessing of Christmas, they are a lot of fun to stitch.
Congrats on the LK chart purchase. Looking forward to seeing them stitched up. Are you going to stitch them on one piece of fabric or as individual projects? Your WIP looks great. I think you should be able to count finishing an animal as a finish. So sorry about your hair color. I am blonde & have never dyed my hair for just that reason that it wouldn't turn out. I had a home perm once that didn't work. My DD was only about 9 mths old & would cry everytime I came near her at first. Now I can laugh about it but back then I actually took a couple of days off from work & cried about it. Congrats on your new niece!!! Your sewing machine is coming along beautifully. It's great that the bobbin plate fit your machine. Do you plan on using the machine once you have it completely cleaned or is it going to be a decorative piece for your home?

Congrats on being an auntie again.
I love the progress on the pig.
Glad to hear you're ahead on homework. Lots of goodies you got.
Also, hope you don't have lots of smashed eggs to clean up.
Love your blog as always.
Chris B.
Im sure that your hair looks great . I have a lot of grey hair :( but Im so allergic so I have not even think to colored my hair yet, im afraid that I got some allergic reaction because I can have a really "red face" about new shampoo.
Your stitching looks great and wonderful statsh and congratulation to be aunt :)
Tinna
Haha heehee hoho!!! You should have posted a picture of yourself in magenta hair!!
They look like banana pancakes. Hope I got it right :)
Your sewing machine is looking as good as new!
I would guess zucchini pancakes, since that is in season right now.
Well at least you're ahead on the school! Stitching and stash look great! So where's the picture of your new hair color? And the pancakes look yummy. :)
Congrats on the new niece. What a pretty name for her.
Sorry about your hair. That stinks. I found out a year or so ago that Feria doesn't work that well for grey coverage. I kept wondering why the normal hair had such a beautiful color, and the grey hair would be funny, and then shed the color, so I'd have lots of white hair amidst the dark auburn. I had to switch to one that gave good grey coverage, and now I just have the grey on the new growth.
I'm jealous of the new stash!!! Gotta show pics of the new hair color!!
Great stash! and your WIP is looking wonderful.
Magenta...don't know what it is, will look for it up later, but i am curious for a pic of you.
As for the pancakes, i'll go for potato pancakes.
Congrats on being an Auntie again! :)
That sucks about the hair (though I think it sounds kinda awesome) are you redying it?
Ohh... LK's! Just awesome.
Ahead on schoolwork means more stitching time right, right?
They look like potato pancakes to me.
Charley is adorable!!
That L*K find is fabulous.
I hope the Magenta is washing out.
Congrats on becoming an auntie, and your sewing machine finds. I know your machine is going to look gorgeous when you're done.

Congratulations on the birth of your niece Meari!!! And my sympathies to your one nephew! LOL!! Sorry about your hair, but GM is looking great!! LOL!!
Happy Trails,
Pam K. :o)
Congrats on becoming an auntie!! Bet magenta looks awesome ;)
